I agree with what other reviewers have said in that this is a bit like a Travelodge or Premier Inn- clean and comfortable, but all a bit soulless and clinical. The reception staff were friendly and knowledgable, and the continental breakfast had a good range of food and was well-stocked. One of the main draws of the hotel is its location, as it's just a 5-10 minute stroll from the main high street. I'm not sure if the hotel is good value for money as we stayed here as part of a package deal, but I can definitely recommend it if it's relatively cheaper than other Reykjavik hotels.

Jan 2013 we booked this hotel via an Iceland air package, The hotel itself is extremely clean and well kept.
the room we had was on the third floor and due to this the view was straight over to the opposite hotels which was a shame so try for a higher floor, but never the less the rooms are very good, tv has many channels, and also the breakfast is basic but fine. fill yourself up in the mornings! also the showers are fantastic.
the service is good and friendly on our departure we had a very early flight as breakfast normally starts at 7am, as they knew we were leaving at 5am to catch the flight they put on some breakfast for us which was very kind of them, parking is easy as there is a car park to the left of the hotel.
Also if your looking for somewhere reasonable to eat I can recommend a restaurant 3 mins walk along from the hotel called red chilli on Laugavegur, this serves Mexican, steaks, fish, curry and most other foods great value and good food.
I would return to this hotel in future.

Room Tip: go for the sixth floor

We enjoyed this hotel, very clean with a nice view from our 5th floor, easily worth the low cost upgrade from the Hotel Cabin, plus the fact it is close to the town centre and taxis are v.expensive in this land.( Every one we took started at $5 as we got in and was at least $13 for a short run to town. The rooms are clean and mod or Scandinavian looking, not a lot of wardrobe space, plenty warm but the windows open. Bathrooms are clean with shower booths of glass. Ironing board, iron and hairdryer in the room. Beds were very comfortable with good pillows, often a problem for us and our room was very quiet.
Breakfast is OK, typical fare and very simple, nothing exciting. The hotel could use somebody with some good wheels in the reception and with a 'good morning, lovely day today ' attitude. They'd sell a heck of a lot more trips with the right person, all the current folks are rather indifferent unless you press them and they did not greet us on leaving or returning unless we said hello first, which I always did but it didn't help them get the hint. Not bad people just indifferent. Free parking out front on the street for your rental.

Room Tip: We were 5th floor with a view out back and it was very quiet, so recommended.

This was our first stop on our Northern Lights Tour. We had added an extra day on to the tour to see more of Reykjavik which we all LOVED - particularly our 19-year-old student daughter. As our holiday was at the beginning of January the whole of Iceland was lit up with Christmas lights and it was a bit like being in a winter wonderland...
The hotel is clean, immaculate and spacious and had great facilities. The receptionist Nicollette was very helpful when we were waiting to be picked up. She phoned England to check our details.
Enjoyed having breakfast in the dark - morning didn't come till 10.30 am.The Klettur is actually very close to the city centre so you can walk it in ten minutes.
'Klettur' apparently means 'lava' and the hotel actually has some of it embedded into its walls which was a nice touch.
Everything is in Icelandic and English only; we did our best to try some Icelandic - which they seemed to appreciate.
Would definitely stay at the Klettur again.

I visited this hotel on my own in January 2013 - I am on my gap year and this was my first destination.

First of all, the hotel is immaculate, the rooms are incredibly clean and the entire feel of the hotel was very modern yet unobtrusive. The room I was in was exactly what I needed, with a great choice of television (BBC 1 being the first channel!), a decent bed, good storage space, an ironing board, a safe and light switches right by your pillow - a very useful idea. There was a thermostat if it got too hot, but most of the time it was just right - both the warmth of the room and the shower was just what you needed after a long time out in the wind and rain!

Secondly, the breakfast options were expansive with a great deal of choice (including peanut butter, squid, cornflakes and fruit salad) to suit any food preference. The Wi-Fi facilities where also very quick and easy to use, and the location of the Hotel meant you were very close to several restaurants, especially Italian (DeVitos for a great pizza on a budget!), Thai, American and Icelandic. The main shopping street was only a few minutes away too.

If I was going to make a few suggestions, it would be that none of the rooms appeared to have kettles, that the key-card was particularly troublesome and that the Wi-Fi doesn't extend to inside the rooms. That is all!

Finally, perhaps the best part of the hotel was the staff, who were all fantastic and so happy to advise you on Reykjavik's sights, to book various excursions and just have a general chat at the the end of a long day. They spoke perfect English which was very impressive, and on the last day when I had an early flight, they were only too happy to give me a wake up call at 4am and allow me to have some early breakfast. Brilliant staff - if any of them do read this then thank you so much for making my visit to your country such a pleasure.

Stayed here in November for a week during our first visit to Iceland. We booked it as part of a package with Icelandair.

On the drop off run from the airport one always gets a bit nervous when you see some of the not so nice hotels that people get dropped off at but when we pulled up we were nicely surprised. Hotel is compact yet modern with a few quirky Icelandic touches.

We thoroughly enjoyed - breakfast each morning was more than adequate, rooms & hotel in general were always spotless & the location is fab. Only a stones throw from the high street & most attractions and as such we'd definitely stay again.

Only minor criticism would be the land adjacent the hotel isn't very pretty but you'll more than likely be too busy to care & the rooms were very hot but it is Iceland and I'd rather have been too warm than cold!

Great hotel.

Spent 3 nights here bed and breakfast and was on the 4th floor. The room was warm, clean and everything we needed for our short stay. Equipped with tv, fridge, iron and ironing board, safe and hairdryer. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was good food. All the staff were very helpful and the bar area had a tv and was very comfortable. Close enough to walk into the town. The flybus dropped us off and picked us up and excursions were always on time. I had forgotten my plug adaptor for my straighteners so they gave me one to use to save me buying another. The room was not small, it was a twin bedded room with plenty of room in the bathroom and plenty of wardrobe space.
