“Favourite bread and pastries”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

We went to pick up a sourdough loaf but stopped for drinks and a bite. The coffee and hot chocolate were okay but the pastries and bread were outstanding. Very busy but the staff are friendly and efficient. Always a relief to find a good bakery when you're newly arrived.

“Every bit as good as the ratings and review say”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

We tried 6 different kinds of pastry and a loaf of sourdough bread. Everything ws delicious. My daughter had a gelato cone (chocolate) and both the gelato and the cone were also yummy. We liked the chocolate croissant so much we went back for more. But really, the donut and the muffin and the cinnamin roll with toffee icing were also great. You cannot go wrong here, and with the price of food in Reykjavik, the more you eat from here, the less you will spend in restaurants. They open very early and stay open fairly late compared to other bakeries. So if the early sunrise wakes you up, go for a walk, get a cup of coffee and a croissant, and bring breakfast back to the rest of your group. They will thank you.

“Great pastries, not tourist friendly”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

The pastries look amazing however the staff will not serve tourists willingly. When I visited I heard what was an obvious slur against tourists (at least Americans) by local customers and the staff seemed willing to indulge these actions by not serving me. We have otherwise had exemplary service and had a great experience in Iceland. If you want to try it I suggest you pose as a local or better yet just find another place that is tourist friendly. Unfortunately this Bakari is not worth visiting if you want a pleasant trip. Plenty of other great choices.

In response to your comment on Trip Advisor, please accept our sincere apology. It is not, and never has been our policy or indeed a part of our business model to discriminate against tourist.
Tourism accounts for a large percentage of our business, therefore Sandholt management is confident that this was a regrettable misunderstanding.
Again, please accept our apology and we look forward to you visiting our bakery again.
Sincerely
Sandholt Management.

“Best bakery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Very good yeast?bread! Pain au chocolat, danish pastry, and many kinds of ofther different pastries, they are experimenting, and switching what they offer, most often very good! The crossant is marvelous, especially newly baked. Maybe not the best coffee, but fine. This place lacks better service, often misunderstanding, forgetting things, you ordered etc. The water there is always at room tempurature, which is strange, when we have so good, cold tap water! But despite of this, a visit is really worth it!

“Lovely and Quaint with Yummy Pastries”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

So glad we stumbled upon this bakery our first morning in Reykjavik. As we almost walked past it we noticed that it was pretty busy on the inside and decided to check it out. Everything looked so good . Wished I could have had a taste of just about everything in the display case! The "menu" is a little tough to figure out and I suspect that we really didn't know how to order . I noticed other people with bowls of soup that looked good but didn't see this listed anywhere! Never mind though, what we did have was very tasty. I had some kind of pistachio Danish and coffee. My husband had one of the sandwiches. You order at the counter and food is brought out to you. How they know where you are sitting is a mystery to me. Lots of little sitting nooks everywhere with such a homey feel. In our little nook there was an Islandic family of two adults with 3 children who were there to pass the morning reading the paper, playing checkers on the game tablecloth provided by the bakery and enjoying time with each other. I don't what I enjoyed more, the breakfast or the company in that room!
