Very good yeast?bread! Pain au chocolat, danish pastry, and many kinds of ofther different pastries, they are experimenting, and switching what they offer, most often very good! The crossant is marvelous, especially newly baked. Maybe not the best coffee, but fine. This place lacks better service, often misunderstanding, forgetting things, you ordered etc. The water there is always at room tempurature, which is strange, when we have so good, cold tap water! But despite of this, a visit is really worth it!

So glad we stumbled upon this bakery our first morning in Reykjavik. As we almost walked past it we noticed that it was pretty busy on the inside and decided to check it out. Everything looked so good . Wished I could have had a taste of just about everything in the display case! The "menu" is a little tough to figure out and I suspect that we really didn't know how to order . I noticed other people with bowls of soup that looked good but didn't see this listed anywhere! Never mind though, what we did have was very tasty. I had some kind of pistachio Danish and coffee. My husband had one of the sandwiches. You order at the counter and food is brought out to you. How they know where you are sitting is a mystery to me. Lots of little sitting nooks everywhere with such a homey feel. In our little nook there was an Islandic family of two adults with 3 children who were there to pass the morning reading the paper, playing checkers on the game tablecloth provided by the bakery and enjoying time with each other. I don't what I enjoyed more, the breakfast or the company in that room!

My family ate at Sandholt Bakery just about every day of our vacation in Iceland. They are one of a few restaurants that are open before 9:00 am. Everything from the pastries to the cereal was delicious. I highly recommend this bakery. The service was a little slow, but probably just a reflection of the slower, laid back pace of Iceland in general.

... just good food and service. We stopped in for a morning snack and were delighted with our pastry selection. The wifi was fast, allowing us to catch up expensive shipboard access.

Sandholt Bakari is one of our favourite stops in Reykjavik. They have a wide and tempting array of breads and bakery treats and a creative selection of fresh sandwiches that changes daily, often on bread studded with walnuts or olives, fresh ciabatta...and generously laden with ingredients like brie, smoky ham, salami, rucola, roasted tomatoes, radicchio, olives...they will grill the sandwiches and package for take away, or you can find cosy seating in the outdoor courtyard, and comfortable banquette seating and individual tables indoors. We also highly recommend the traditional Icelandic knotted donuts, a cross between a cake donut and a bread donut, and with what seems like a light orange essence...and we also recommend the chocolate brioche and the round, pistachio-crowned sweet that is coiled from puff pastry, (with a pistachio-marzipan surprise inside). The staff are very friendly and the prices and value are outstanding; about 800 kroner for sandwiches, 200 - 300 kroner for bakery treats. We often purchased sandwiches and treats for our road trips out of the city, and frequently stopped by for morning cappucino. And, we still want to try the passionfruit summer cake.
