During our cruise to Iceland my husband and I decided to book a private tour with a local company rather than relying on the cruise line during our time in Reykjavik. After a lot of researching we decided to book with Discover Iceland, which turned out to be a brilliant decision. After talking to Georg at Discover Iceland he put together a private tour which included the Golden Circle, snowmobiling and a visit to the Blue Lagoon.
On the day, we were picked up from our ship by our guide Kiddi who was excellent, he was not only funny but also extremely knowledgeable about the area and its geology. During our trip we visited several amazing locations such as Thingvellir and the Geysirs at Haukadalur, even stopping along the way to drink the fresh water straight from a local lake (Yes, we made Kiddi go first!). Following our stop at the Gullfoss waterfall we headed to the Langjokull glacier for an amazing snowmobiling experience with a small group of other tourists. Along the way Kiddi told us all about Iceland and the geological features, as well as taking us for some off-road fun wherever possible. On our final leg towards the Blue Lagoon we drove through some stunning landscape, passing lava fields and stopping for some spectacular photo opportunities at the Faxafoss waterfall and Reykjanes peninsula.
Following some relaxation at the Blue Lagoon Kiddi took us back to our ship, in all the tour lasted around 12 hours and was definitely one of the highlights of our entire holiday. All thanks to Discover Iceland and, of course, Kiddi.
