Fantastic day out on the glacier and having a go at ice climbing. The scenery was STUNNING, and the guides were great. Never too old to try something new...

“Amazing Day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

We did the super jeep tour including the glacier hike, and when our tour guide arrived, Ali we asked how many people were joining us...noone! Basically had a personalised tour of iceland for the whole day and it was the best day ever, topped off by going out to see the NL with another company and had an amazing 2 hour display. Couldnt fault them and Ali was such a good guide, and told us all we wanted to know and was an excellent teacher for how to use the crampons! I wanna come back!

“Lava Cave Fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

We went on the Lava cave tour this afternoon. we were picked up at the arctic adventures headquarters and left Reykjavik at 1 o'clock. In total, there were just four of us in a mini van so it was quite cozy. Our guide, a charming Swede named Sarah was really friendly from the start and we already got the feeling that it was going to be a nice tour.

After around 45 minutes driving out of Reykjavik we arrived at the blue mountains area and just the view of those was nice enough on its own. After we parked we entered a little hole on the ground and entered the cave. It was quite cranky inside but you could stand up about half the time. Sarah explained exactly how the cave was formed (several thousands years ago) and why it looked like it looked.

It was a bit icy in the beginning but soon became drier. I was fine bare-handed but If I were to go there next time, I would still get my gloves. Besides crouching to avoid getting my head it on the ceiling, we were able to experience quite nice rock formations, and we all had a good, relaxed fun time.

In total we spent about an hour in the cave and were driven back to Reykjavik. Sarah was both competent and funny at the same time and made the trip even more interesting with her refreshing humor and weird anecdotes.

I would definitely recommend this tour, as long as you're at least averagely fit.

“Interesting, very crowded and nothing spectacular”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

We did the glacier hiking tour in early January 2014. The positives were this was an interesting tour that you wouldn't be able to experience on your own. We hiked the glacier for about an hour and then took an attempt at climbing a glacier wall. The main tour guide was knowledgable about the glacier and gave lots of interesting facts.

However, the tour was way too crowded. There were more than 20 people in our group with one lead tour guide and a few helpers that were checking for safety along the way. This made things really slow and impersonal. It also made the prep process confusing. We could not hear well how to put on the crampons, etc. and it was quite stressful.

I felt the tour was not "very easy" and for everyone. We are mid-20s and in shape and thought it was strenuous and slightly dangerous, though I think it was a particularly windy day. I can't see this being comfortable for children or anyone out of shape.

Lastly, wish the tour details were a bit more clear. We met the group at the glacier instead of getting picked up (one of the options) but had to email for specific directions. I thought lunch was included but found out the as of January it's not, and they don't provide a time to have a snack so make sure you eat before.

Overall, glad we did it but would probably look into less popular tour groups to have a smaller, more personal experience.

“Great trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

We did the glacial hiking with the agency and it was great. They picked us up from the hotel, took us to the foot of the glacier and gave us all the equipment and short training session. After that we started the hike and in the middle of it all we did some ice climbing, which was fun. The guides were very helpful. The one thing was that we were expecting some packed lunch to be provided as was mentioned on their website but we didn't get any.
