Owner description: Volcano House is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the heart of Reykjavik. This is the place where one can learn about the Icelandic volcanoes by watching high quality film that were created for the Volcano House. Moreover, there is a great lava stones collection, souvenir shop and the collection of arts from famous Icelandic artists. We pride ourselves with of our multilingual staff many of whom have studied geology and so can add to the understanding of our customers.

The two short films shown are a really good insight into Iceland's geological past, the lava and mineral displays are interesting too. There is a cafe there but the staff seem a little disinterested.

Very interesting films about volcanoes in Iceland. (pretty expensive though). Nice to look at rock specimens while you wait for the next showing.

We popped in here during a day of sight seeing - we hadn't realised there was a cafe in it too. We didn't have time to see the films they show but the display of volcanic (and other) rocks was worth having a look at and it's got a nice atmosphere if you want somewhere a little different to have a drink and a snack.

The film is interesting, but most of it is a grainy documentary about the eruption on Heimaey, which is fine but not worth the price. The cafe is relaxed, the coffee good, the soup tasty, but the cake was dry. I'd go back for coffee and a lazy read of the books on offer.

Part cafe, part cinema, part collection of geological specimens situated on the ground floor of a building close to the Old Harbour.
Good place to go on a cold rainy day. We popped in a couple of times. It's free to look at the small but interesting collection of volcanic rocks, some of which you can handle. The cafe, which serves a range of hot drinks, light snacks and cakes (the finest apple cake in the country?), has a nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. Tickets for the cinema are not cheap, but the documentary, which lasts about an hour, is well made and very interesting, with some amazing footage of various eruptions. You can take your coffee in to drink while you're watching, which is nice.

There's also a nice little gift shop selling volcano-related souvenirs.
