Owner description: Volcano House is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the heart of Reykjavik. This is the place where one can learn about the Icelandic volcanoes by watching high quality film that were created for the Volcano House. Moreover, there is a great lava stones collection, souvenir shop and the collection of arts from famous Icelandic artists. We pride ourselves with of our multilingual staff many of whom have studied geology and so can add to the understanding of our customers.

Came in here to get out of the cold and rain. The film from 1973 was quaint - but lots of information on something which we had vague memories of. The second film (about 2010 ash cloud) was in good contrast. Both very informative.

Despite this being billed as the must see volcano attraction in town, I thought that the films were dated and a bit flat. I have seen better stuff on the Discovery channel. Despite this, a great place for a coffee, a lump of cake and a read of the many volcano books freely available.

We happened upon this little cafe on our first afternoon in Iceland. We were jetlagged and after a nice walk it quickly became cold and rainy, so we decided on a whim to stop here. We enjoyed lovely warm drinks in the small theater where we watched the two documentaries about Iceland - both of which were informative and well done.

My boyfriend wanted to go here, and I must say that I wasn't exactly overy-enthusiastic about it, but it was great! It wasn't too long, and the older footage makes for interesting viewing. I learned a lot, and was pleased that it kept my attention!! We were the only people in the cinema, and I hope it is usually busier or manages to stay open, as it's a great thing to do after a busy day of touring!

In a country with weather that changes by the minute, it's nice to have a few indoor activities you can default to. This is one of them.

Small museum dedicated to the volcano of Iceland, Great geology collection, 2 short movies in their private theater and a coffee bar. ($16/ person)
