“Fantastic Location”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

My reservation was for a queen bed, yet when i got there what i got was something between a twin and a full inside of a room about the size of a dorm room- i'm not sure an actual queen bed would have fit in it. I thought maybe it had been my mistake and that perhaps in iceland queen beds are that size. Upon checking into the second hotel of the trip, also booked a queen, I noticed that a queen in iceland is the same as a queen here and that hotel borg had made a mistake somehow. However, this didnt really bother me. i was there with my husband and it was our honeymoon so having to cuddle wasn't a problem.
Our flight got in at 6 am and by the time we got to the hotel it was about 8am- check in isnt until 3pm but we were going to ask the hotel to hold our bags until then. Instead, they made a phonecall and let us know that our room was ready and let us check in. This great customer service was found throughout our stay- on the last day the rental company didnt drop off our car at the time we had reserved and the front desk was happy to take care of it.
The location is also unbeatable. 5 minutes from anything you could think of. I would definitely recommend Hotel Borg!

Room Tip: perhaps consider upgrading to a suite if you're considered about small room space. Husband compl...

Classic Art Deco hotel in the center of Reykjavic night life and shopping. The hotel itself is clean and appointed quite well. However, the amenities could use an upgrade and for a hotel if it's caliper I would expect a proper king size bed as opposed to two twins pushed together. The beds were not at all comfortable and the linens could also use an upgrade. Our room faced the square along with the pubs, therefore street noise was clearly heard on Friday and Saturday night until the wee hours. There is not fitness center in this hotel which was also a disappointment.

The service was impeccable and the restaurant albeit pricey was very good as well. However, there are numerous restaurants highly rated within a short walk that have better atmosphere and what I would consider five star service and food.

In short, it's an expensive hotel for what they offer. I would seek alternate accommodations if returning to Reykjavic.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, choose a high floor on the side of the hotel opposite the square.

If you can afford the extra shekels to stay at the Borg Hotel, do it. We used the Borg as our "bookend" for our trip to Europe (IcelandAir now flies to Rekjavik from Seattle, which shortens time in the air going to Europe from Seattle by a couple of hours, making the jet lag easier to manage)) in September and were very impressed with this property. You are right in the middle of everything Reykjavik has to offer. Parliament and the National Cathedral are kitty-corner from the hotel across a pretty square. You can either take a taxi or shuttle bus from the airport (which is 45 minutes away by taxi). All the "must-do" shopping and Reykjavik tourtist high points are within walking distance (and, during the summer, a "hop-on, hop-off" bus can take you to the other "must do" venues.

The hotel is beautifully appointed in the Art Deco style with each room having a different look. I'd recommend getting a room high up from street level (we had room 512 which had a great view of the square) or even facing away from the square to avoid the weekend revelry which other reviewers have noted. But during the week the area in front of the hotel is no louder than anywhere else. Our bed's "sleep number" was perfect for our taste (might be a little soft for those preferring hard mattresses).

Staff are very friendly and helpful and speak English well (most Icelanders seem to have English as their second language). They were very helpful booking transportation and answering questions.

Rooms also come with Wi-Fi access and there's also a small room off from the lobby/entrance where a couple of computers with free internet access are available.

The few downsides to the property (which precluded what should have been a fifth star in this review) are a lack of parking and the noise on weekends from the nearby pubs. I guess in the land of the midnight sun you shouldn't be surprised that people will be out drinking until 5AM on the weekends. But they do. Next time they renovate strong consideration should be given to soundproofing the street-facing rooms. The attached restaurant is excellent (reviewed separately) but not inexpensive (and breakfast isn't included in the normal tariff.

For business or personal travel, this property makes a lot of sense and, from what we could tell from neighboring hotels, is better maintained. As mentioned above, if you can afford it, do it!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the square on the fifth floor are ideal for photos. But if you want to avoid the weeke...

This is the oldest and one of the most expensive hotels in Reykjavik and on arrival you can see why. The art deco style in the public areas and the rooms is like a little bit of New York luxury in the middle of Iceland. The room we had was large and beautifully appointed, reception staff were helpful and friendly, the restaurant was fantastic and offered quality food and the location was perfect. My only complaint is that the restaurant staff were formal and a bit self important and one night we had particularly bad service at the bar. This was disappointing considering everything else was so impressive. Also, there is a wine bar next door under the same management which is excellent. It is less formal and offers casual food including tapas style dishes with a great variety of beers and wines.

Due to overbooking at Bjork, I ended up in Hotel Borg- sounds like something from Star Trek.

this is a very nice hotel located right smack in the middle of city center. My room is spacious with two sitting chairs and a desk with another chair. The bathroom is big with a full size sink. I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel. During my stay in Reykjavik, I have stayed in three different hotels. Hotel Borg is the best of the three- bar none.

Loved this hotel. It's like an Art Deco time warp. It is in the historic part of town. The service was excellent as was the accommodation and breakfast. Much nicer than staying in a modern plastic hotel. It has character and charm and free internet! I would definitely stay here again.
