“With one exception - maybe the best hotel in downtown Reykjavik?”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

An unbelievably true Art Deco hotel and a pleasant week end experience in downtown Reykjavik.
If you are an architecture freak - you will either be pleased or challenged by the exterior and interior of this hotel.
We are not such freaks and we were still very pleased by the consistent Art Deco fine details everywhere - from the exterior to fine interior details....
As for service - well trained and English speaking in reception, bar/restaurant and rooms.
Proactive service attitude all the way.
Breakfast - a fair 4 Star breakfast quality in every respect.
Cleanliness - impeccable, expect for one unfortunate minor accident (exception, see headline...):
small fragment of broken glass at bedside in one evening caused "minor blood shed".
Location: Not more than a 5 minutes walk from the hotel to a great and unbelievably exciting selection of good restaurants in the neighborhood.
Recommendation:
Visit Borg - in the fall/winter/early spring the noise from neighboring may not severe the quality of a very good hotel experience....

Room Tip: BEWARE OF NIGHTLIFE. In summer time with most/all street activities around the hotel depending on w...

Stayed at the Borg on the first night of our holiday. The reception staff were friendly and professional and we were given a lovely room on the fourth floor. I was a little worried as it was right next to the lift but we never heard a thing. Lovely comfy bed and probably one of the deepest, widest baths I have ever been in. There was some noise from a near by bar but after a meal out and a couple of cocktails I slept like a baby, until the fire alarm went off some time in the night, so up I got, left the room and realised I had left my husband fast asleep. By the time he was awake the alarm had stopped so nothing to worry about. Breakfast was good and plentiful. As said by others the Borg is a beautiful building in a central part of Reykavik but also overlooking a pretty square. A good start to our trip

Beautiful art-deco hotel, in the centre of old town Reykjavik. Our suite faced the park, parliament buildings and had a great city view. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and pleasant and smiled, a hard to find feature in Iceland. The only glitch was we needed an extra hour of extended check-out and they didn't want to do that. The staff preferred to store the bags. The breakfast was underwhelming so we went across the street to Café Paris.

Room Tip: We had no problem with the sounds of the city, as Icelanders enjoy their extra daylight hours, but s...

The hotel was located right in the middle of downtown Reykjavik. The staff was so friendly and helpful. anything you asked was done with a smile. The rooms were done nicely and they were very clean. I would come back here again with pleasure!!!!!

The hotel is beautiful and very well located, but as much as I wanted to like it, my experience was just average for a couple of reasons:

1. The room was underwhelming given the high price.
2. Internet connection extremely spotty, bordering on unusable.
3. Not very well sound-proofed as noise from the street is very audible.
4. Confusing layout, getting to my room was kind of a mission.

On the plus side the staff seemed nice, and the blinds were excellent in blocking out the eternal sunlight you get in Iceland unlike at some other hotels I'd stayed at.

The Hotel Borg has an excellent location right in downtown Reykjavik. The Art Deco style is elegant and the rooms are well appointed. We had a suite with a balcony and it was very nice indeed. Large rooms, modern bathroom and attentive service. The included breakfast was very nice. The staff was helpful and attentive. We did not have a problem with noise from the street below and we were there Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel is very convenient to everything in town.

This 1930's, Art Deco hotel is located on a central square in downtown Reykjavik. It is a beautiful building with spacious and well designed rooms. The central location is fantastic as it is practically diagonal from one of the hottest clubs in the city.

Room Tip: While overlooking the town square may be a nice view, it may be noisy as the square is rowdy with pe...
