“They did not disclose restaurant is closed and under construction!”

Fine hotel in a good location but a bit worn out and tired. They did not disclose to us that their restaurant is closed and under heavy construction. We would have appreciated this information.
Breakfast service in the bar is a joke. Walk to bakery two blocks away. Better yet, the Radisson Blue is literally across the street in a slightly better spot, and offers full amenities.

The primary purpose of a hotel is somewhere to stay overnight. Inherent in this proposition is the ability to sleep. This is rendered impossible for anyone staying at Hotel Borg on either a friday or saturday night, designed as this hotel is with a bar (licensed till 1am) at one end of the ground floor, and a nightclub (licensed till 5am) at the other.

If you are going to Iceland to enjoy the nightlife, then this chic, stylish hotel is well located with friendly staff.

If you have any ambition to get more than 3 hours sleep a night look elsewhere. For reference, the receptionist offered me a different room. twice. but you just cannot escape the bass.

Room Tip: rooms in other hotels are quieter.

We stayed at The Borg from 10th-16th February, 2013. No hotel is faultless, but the staff could not have been more attentive, helpful and caring. The restaurant was being refurbished during our stay, so they used the bar next door as a temporary breakfast room. The breakfast was very poor, and certainly not value for money. The hotel accepted our complaint however and kindly refunded the cost for the one and only day we used it. There was also a mix up for the timings for the transfer to the airport. Once again the the hotel staff made sure we got to the airport in plenty of time. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Everything else about the hotel was excellent, and the location in the city is perfect. We would not hesitate to stay at The Borg again, and certainly recommend it.

I'm writing this review at 4 a.m. after a second night of little or no sleep. Why? Because there is bar / club below the back of our hotel which has been thumping out loud, bass-intensive music plus associated 'human' noise since before midnight.
It appears the Reykjavik authorities condone this activity since clubs can stay open until 4:30 a.m. (apparently, until recently, it used to be even later!) with few restrictions other than observing liquor licensing laws. Despite the hotel's occasional complaints to the police, they seem not to be able to limit the clubs' activities.
We have been told that we are in one of the better areas of the hotel to minimise noise levels - 5th floor, room 519 - and that lower floors on either side of the building are just as bad and, implicitly, worse!
It seems the disturbances are limited to Friday's and Saturday's and we can confirm this. We arrived on a Tuesday and the first 3 nights were quite peaceful.
It's a shame that the hotel is blighted by this noise problem but, given our experience, we would certainly never visit this hotel again on a stay involving a Friday or Saturday!

Room Tip: There seems to be no escape from the noise but, on a weekday, the upper floors at the back of the ho...

The reception was very helpful and the location was right in the middle of the city so it is very easy for us to go anywhere especially reykjavik is such a small cozy town. Unfortunately, the housekeeping was amazingly lazy, he or she basically just make our bed only. We stayed there for about 10 days and there were days where there were no towels, shampoo and shower soap! Everything else i. The room was left as we leave it there. The cups that were used were not replaced or washed! They were just left there for us to wash ourselves! The best housekeeping was the day before we left where the housekeeping standard is what it should be; changed towels, new cups, things were properly placed. Other than the lazy housekeeping, its a good place to stay.

The Borg, situated in the heart of Reykjavik is a great base for exploring. The hotel has been renovated to a high standard and harps back to the 1920's. The rooms are comfortable with large beds and good quality bathrooms. Our room was on the corner of the 2nd floor with a great view over the square, and despite busy bars in the vicinity we heard no noise.
It's a 5 minute walk to the harbour area and 5 minutes to the busy shopping street. 10 minutes from Reykjavik's local airport and car rentals and 5 minutes from the bus depot. (the best way to get to town from the airport - flybus at a reasonable cost).
The restaurant was unfortunately being renovated when we visited so the Icelandic Bar located next door served as bar/restaurant.
A good 4 star hotel worthy of the rating.

Room Tip: room 216 on the corner overlooking the square with a double aspect

Excellent location, beautiful art deco feel, very helpful staff. Comfy bed but very little storeage space in a huge room. There is a tiny wardrobe and no chest of draws anywhere is the only grumble. Ask to borrow a DVD player. Beware the multi-storey car park nearby next to the lake. It is cheap but on going to get the hire car at 5 am to go to the airport for our flight, the shutters were down and it was closed until 7am. We had to leave it there, give the keys to the hotel reception and get a £70 taxi ! Other than that we had a great time.

Room Tip: The 4th floor with balconies.
