The location is great, on the western end of the main street, and there's no excuse for not getting out of the hotel at night, even after a long day of driving and walking to the major sights outside of Reykjavik. These streets in the "old" part of Reykjavik have a lot of charm and the hotel is well located to explore them. The hotel itself is cute, with little details that reflect well the quirkiness of this city. The staff is very helpful, and will be happy to make calls for you for car rental reservations or other things. All this said, the reason I did not give it a "higher score" is because their rooms are very small (we got a room on the 2nd floor, it's so tiny there's no place for a chair). Our room has a bed, a desk, but hardly room for our suitcase (and we had just 1), or a chair to sit down. The size of the bathroom is OK. As some other reviewers have indicated, the street is very noisy at night (from 10PM on). For me it was not a problem since I just slept through the noise, but I can understand that for many, this will be a problem. Breakfast is not included in the price, and I find this rather a value turn-off. You pay 10 Euros for a "all you can eat buffet", which is expensive when the bill adds up at the end. While it would still be "good value" as compared to the option of eating outside, it's still is a turn-off considering the price of the room and the fact that some hotels in the areas include breakfast in their price. All in all, the experience with the hotel was positive, but I would look for competitive offers with other hotels in the same area next time.

My Wife and I recently came back from our trip to Iceland and we had a wonderful time. Reykjavik was our first stop and I am very happy that we selected City Center Hotel as our place to stay. We landed at 7:00 am local time and the weather was horrible (heavy rain and winds), and my wife was not feeling well from the flight. We arrived at the hotel around 8:15 and I knew checking in would be a long shot given the early hour, but I thought I would at least try. That's when we met Anna for the first time. I asked her if our room was ready because my wife really needed to get some rest to help her feel better and Anna said the room was not ready, but she asked housekeeping if they could put a priority on cleaning the room, and they did. Within 30-40 minutes, our room was ready and it was spotless. My wife was able to sleep for a few hours and when she woke up, she was feeling better.

The hotel itself is very nice and it's in a great location! We never used the car to get around the city as the hotel is within walking distance to so many great sights, such as the harbor, the opera house, museums, shopping, etc. It really is centrally located and Anna was so good about giving us directions, maps, and suggestions for places to go and things to do.

We had two stays at the hotel. One on the front end of our trip and the other on the back end before returning home. During our first stay we were in room 602 and it was a very nice room. The second stay we were in room 503 and it also was a nice room. It was a bit smaller in size than 602, but both were very clean and very comfortable.

We did frequent the Micro Bar, which is part of the building and they do have a great selection of beer. I was enjoying the Gaedengur IPA and Pale Ale on tap. We were there 2 times and on both visits, we had a nice time talking with the bartenders; one of which was the brewer. Being a novice homebrewer myself, I really enjoyed talking with him and learning a few tricks of the trade.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and the next time we are in Reykjavik, we would stay here again. I've said it, and others have as well, the staff here are great and will do anything they can to help. Each time we came into the hotel Anna was always there to greet us with a smile and she made us feel so welcome. She is so great at what she does and you can see that she genuinely enjoys interacting with the hotel guests. She and the rest of the staff made a our stay great, and we were so appreciative for all they did to get us into the room so early in the morning. Thank you Anna and the entire team at City Center Hotel for a wonderful stay!

the city center hotel in Reykjavik is one of the most fabulous hotels i slept.
1. the location is fantastic. it just locates in the city center. from this hotel, you can easily walk to the harbor, the viking sculpture, the church and the city hall. Along the street, there is a 24 hours open market. the famous iceland excursion center office is also in this street.
2. very friendly staff. they give traveling tips, provide free maps, help send postcards and even remember your room number.
3. as many people mentioned, the breakfast in the hotel is quite good. basically, simply but with good quality.
4. in the budget.

Room Tip: rooms on the top floor (the 6th floor) is quietly great with a good scene.

This was recommended to us by friends and it was great. Centrally located with a staff that is there to please. Anna at the desk did everything to make sure our stay was wonderful. She wrote down the names of our destinations (we were tongue tied but the Icelandic language.) She made reservations for dinner and gave us detailed directions on walking to our destinations.

The rooms are spotless. There is free wireless and breakfast available for a small amount. Food in Iceland is expensive so this breakfast is a good deal.
The entire staff is fluent in English.

Room Tip: There is a bar on the first floor that can be loud on Friday night. If you are a light sleeper try...

Just back from a 4 night stay at City Center Hotel, Reykjavik. What a fantastic hotel in a brilliant location, walking distance to everything. We were in a standard double room which had a king size bed. We asked for a room on a high floor and were given room 602 on the sixth floor at the back of the hotel. The room looked out over Jón Sigurðsson forseti and the lake. The room was clean and a good size. The hotel staff were very friendly and always on hand to help. We only had breakfast on one day (this costs €10 each) but we found it to have a good selection and was worth the money. During the day there is coffee available near reception. The breakfast room turns into the Micro Bar at night which has a good selection of beers. Between 5 and 7pm one of the eight pump beers is on special at only 500ISK for a pint.

We booked our airport transfers and excursions with Iceland Excursions through the hotel's website. The bus arrives at the Iceland Excursions office in the city centre and you can then get on smaller buses to take you direct to your hotel. Not having been to Reykjavik before we didn't know where the hotel was. It turns out that it is a less than 5 minute walk from the Iceland Excursions office so you can just walk from there. I'd recommend that you pick up the bus for all excursions at the Iceland Excursions office as if you ask for hotel pick up you will be picked up between 30 and 60 minutes before the excursion starts and end up driving round to the other hotels.

I can't wait to go back to Reykjavik and will definitely stay in the CIty Center Hotel again. I recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor

This hotel is very well located and an easy walk around town. There are plenty of good restaurants just outside the door that are well worth checking out and lots of good bars.

If driving to the hotel you need a little patience (we had three maps but none indicated the direction of one way streets) and some luck. If driving from the airport drive past the hotel a block or two and then backtrack, and if lucky you will make it eventually.

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are fine and large enough for a couple. Breakfast is adequate and superior to those generally horrible breakfasts at chain hotels in the US.

During my stay they were renovating the hotel and one elevator was not working. No big deal, but expect a few roofing panels out of place in hallways, exposed wiring etc. Notable though was the carpet on the lower floor stairways was badly worn and am surprised they let it go so long. Still, I would not hesitate to stay there again given the price and location of the hotel.

A real kingsize bed! We had been sleeping in those "push together twins", and this was a real treat. An old building had a totally new hotel built inside it, around the elevator shaft which is separated from the rooms by the hallway. The desk was very helpful, walking out with me to show the few parking spaces they have. The location couldn't be better: center of the tourist attractions, and 3-4 blocks to the Harbor or Harpa. The full breakfast was delicious, and at 10 euros a bargain for Iceland.
Just one thing: allow an hour to wind thru the narrow streets to find it. Don't even think of doing it after dark! We also walked to the city geothermal swimming pool to get "real warm" with the other Icelanders.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor, as we frequently did not wait for the elevator.
