“Great location, even better hotel”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Having never been anywhere in Europe, I honestly had no idea what to expect, but this hotel exceeded just about all of my expectations. The hotel is located in the center of the city and there's plenty to do within a 5 minute walk. Food, bar, night life, all a stone's throw away. As for the hotel itself, the service was excellent and the daily breakfast is better than anything you'd get in the US (where I'm from). The staff was more than happy to answer our questions and give us advice for things to do around town. If I were to go back to Iceland, I'd definitely stay in this hotel again.

We liked the City Center Hotel, though I think we were stuck with the smallest room in the hotel. It contained a king sized bed, and not much else. We had to file into the room one at a time in order to squeeze through the door. However, the room was very clean and the hotel was well located. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Next time we would ask for a larger room. One final thing: street noise can be a bit of a problem at night.

We stayed at the City Centre Hotel for three nights as part of a long weekend to Iceland in June 2013. The hotel is unquestionably one of if not the best located Hotel in Reykjavik. The Hotel is situated right in the heart of Reykjavik high street with a number of restaurants (I would highly recommend Grillmarkadurinn and Café Paris in particular) and bars within the same street as well as the harbour and Harpa Conference Centre around the corner. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating, particularly in arranging pick up times for both Iceland Excursions and Reykjavik Excursions. Would definitely stay at the City Centre Hotel in all future visits to Reykjavik!

I visited Iceland in march and stayed at the City Center. I really appreciated this hotel, both location and staff. I landed in Reykjavik before sunrise and showed up to the hotel well before normal check in. After heading out for a coffee and breakfast, i revisited the hotel and was told my room was ready for an early check in. Much appreciated after an all night flight. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Also a grocery store right across the street. City Center made a great home base in Reykjavik.

The room was decent sized and very comfortable. Note: I had a 5th floor room overlooking the front of hotel. Those telling you that the front of the hotel is noisy are correct. My balcony overlooked many of the main bars and restaurants in Reykjavik. As someone who wanted to partake in the late night party, this didn't bother me at all. Matter of fact I enjoyed watching the wild crowd from my balcony. For those wishing to sleep early on a weekend night, bring earplugs or get a room facing back of hotel.

I need to give a quick shout out to Bidnir at the front dest. My tv was having some satellite reception issues and he personally spent a half hour getting it to work. Thanks Bidnir.

Great staff, great location and great fun. You should stay here.

City Center Hotel was located perfectly! It is very near the bus station for Iceland Excursions so our trips to the Golden Circle and Blue Lagoon were very easy. The hotel was clean, the staff was very friendly (especially the night clerk!) and very helpful. We had free wifi. We were within walking distance of the water, shopping, and everything. This was our first trip to Iceland and I recommend staying here for anyone!

The hotel has a good location, if you want to be really downtown. But it comes with a cost... Its in the party street in Reykjavik, and people party and yell just outside. If you have a room out to this street, and on lower level, forget about sleeping! If you have a flight to Europe, you have to leave the hotel at 04:00am, and the party will still be on...
Many of the rooms are really small. The first we got almost had no room for luggage. Kept knocking my head in the tv on the wall when walked around the bed... beds was comfy though...
Breakfast is not included, but you can buy it downstairs in a connected bar place, but they dont open before 07:30 or so, so if you are going on a trip in the morning - you wont make breakfast...
Would not stay here again next time. Will go for a more quiet location with breakfast.

Room Tip: Only good one are on 5th floor, good luck getting one....

This was my first time in Iceland but I could tell CityCenter was a top notch Reykjavik hotel. My room was very nice. The view of the courtyard was amazing.

The staff was very helpful with their recommendations of what to see and where to go for food/drink. This was very important as we were a group of 30 rugby player who like to eat and drink. If you need a car, they will help you set up a rental.

The location of the hotel was incredible. It is in the heart of downtown. You can walk to all the good restaurants/bars/club in under 10 minutes. You can walk to the top of the city in less than 20.

Also for the people who complained about the bad smelling hot water, all the hot water in Iceland smells like that. It's not the hotels fault.

Overall I couldn't have had a better experience in Iceland and it was due to the City Center staff. I highly recommend staying at City Center.
