“Excellent Experience”

First time in Iceland. Chose this hotel based on TA reviews. The rooms are very clean and modern although our room (206) was extermely small even for the two of us. Would recommend asking for a larger room. Very modern bathroom. Location is as central as can be, absolutely excellent. Had dificulty with the internet connection in the room but was able to get on-line in the lobby. Very comfortable beds. The hotel is on a main pedestrian strip so be prepared for noise on Sat. night. The staff was very pleasant and extremely helpful. Buffet breakfast (not included) is good but not quite up to other European hotel buffet breakfasts I have had. We enjoyed our stay and I would highly recommend. Again can't say enough good things about the staff and location.

Was booked at the hotel for four nights during the busiest weekend of the year when thousands of people migrate into the city for the annual cultural night and Reykjavik marathon. Booked through venere.com with a confirmation number. When we arrived, the hotel did not have our reservation as it was apparently not communicated from veneer.com to the hotel. They were otherwise booked solid with no rooms. The manager was extremely helpful in resolving our dilemma. He found us other accommodations for the first few nights at a more expensive hotel, Centrum, and picked up the difference in price which was substantial since it was last minute and most places had no rooms. They even paid for daily breakfast and internet access for us which the second hotel charged for. Stayed at City Center the last night and were pleasantly pleased with the accommodations. To top it off, on our last night, they paid for dinner for me and my wife at any restaurant of our choosing with wine to make up for the inconvenience. Given that I needed to be in close proximity to the marathon start, the hotel went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. The manager, who goes by the nickname Orly or Olly, deserves a lot of credit for making sure our stay did not turn into a disaster which could have happened very easily. Even with the lost booking, would definitely stay again if we return to Iceland simply based on the ability of the hotel to make up for a mistake that may or may not have been their fault directly. We travel extensively, and service like this is almost unheard of anywhere else in the world.

The service was excellent and the employees were warm and very friendly. The best part were the rooms as they are so modern with very tasteful decor and they even provide toothbrushes, bathrobes, and slippers. It can get a bit loud outside at night but overall a great stay and the location is outstanding.

I stayed in the city centre hotel for 3 nights in August 2011 and have absolutely no complaints. The few wrinkles caused by the fact that the hotel is so new are easily overcome by the helpfull and friendly staff, who helped us in every way they could. One yound man behind reception (called something difficult to pronounce that began with B) was kind enough to find me a place in a restaurant that I particularly wanted to go to when I was informed at the restaurant itself that they were full. Excellent service!

It was also pleasant to be able to profit from the shopping in the city center that is a very short walk from the hotel. Prices are much lower than I remember from before the financial crisis!

I had none of the problems with noise mentioned in the other reviews, although i waas in the city midweek.

Oveerall, excellent service and a hotel I will be peased to return to.

We just arrived back from Iceland and loved our stay at Citi Center. We were hesitant to book the hotel since it was brand new, but definitely did not regret it. The hotel was very clean, comfortable beds and excellent location (on the main shopping street). The hotel was still under construction during our stay, and the elevator wasnt working but the hotel staff took our luggage to/from our room so it was not a problem at all. The front desk was SUPER helpful. During our stay we had to cancel our road trip to the south east because a bridge broke, and the front desk was extremely helpful with canceling our travel reservations and re-booking us in their hotel. One of the nights we wanted to re-book for was sold out, so they found us a nearby hotel with a similar rate to accomidate us. Overall City Center is an excellent hotel. The only negative is that because of its location, on the main shopping/bar strip, its very noisy at night on the weekend. But you will get this with any hotel in that area. I would suggest bringing ear plugs if you are looking for this excellent location, otherwise stay off the main strip. Accross the street from the hotel is a restuarant/bar called The Laudromat Cafe that we loved! There is also a square behind the hotel with live music and great bars/restaurants where most of the nightlife is. I would definitely return to city center! It felt more like a 4 star hotel and I loved every night I stayed there! The hotel looks exactly like the pictures do on the website, they are not fake!

We stayed for 4 nights in July 2011, arriving early on a Sunday morning. We expected to wait until much later to get our room. However they had an early checkout, so they prepared our room and let us in after 45 minutes - about 10 am. We were given a room on the 5th floor. The room had access to a shared balcony. We asked for - and received - a key so that we could lock the door to the balcony.

The lift/elevator is not completed to consumer standards, but it works and is safe. It only goes to the 5th floor, so people on the 6th floor have to walk up one floor. Twice, while we were there, it did not respond to our calls, so we had to take the stairs. I suspect it was due to the doors not being closed correctly on some floor.

The room was good, clean and with hardwood type floors. We appreciated the coffee/tea facilities - a kettle and cups - in expensive Reykjavik. We had to ask for extra supplies, as they were not automatically restocked daily. This is probably just a teething problem. Whenever we made a request (supplies, balcony key) they responded very quickly. The mini-bar fridge was useful for our milk and our own beers.

Wi-fi worked well, the room was pleasant, the bathroom had a particularly good shower, there was a hairdryer but no bath. Staff were friendly.

The newness of the hotel caused minor difficulties. The airport transportation delivered us to a different hotel - it was just round the corner. The hotel is on a street with limited vehicular access, so the guy collecting us for a tour was wandering up and down shouting our name, rather than going in to the lobby. They will learn.

Definitely recommended. I would expect that as it is a new hotel you would be able to find good value for Iceland, until such time as it builds up a client base. There are minor disadvantages by being new. They were not important to us and will eventually disappear. The plus points were the coffee/tea facilities, a fridge, helpful staff, a great location and an introductory rate.

On our way from/to the airport we used the newish Airport express http://www.airportexpress.is/ which is operated by Grey Line. Their office and departure point is a short walk away at the other end of the street, so is handier and cheaper than the more established Flybus service, which involves a pickup and a transfer at their bus station. This is quite a distance away, so you need the connecting bus or a taxi. Airport Express is much more convenient.

We stayed 3 nights here as part of a stag do in August 2011. Very clean and new rooms with simple elegant furnishings. Comfy beds (Tempur?). Great breakfasts. The hotel was still having the finishing touches of its refurb applied while we stayed but it was still very clean and comfy.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was excellent for having you right in the heart of town. Laundromat, opposite, is a great starting bar for breakfast if you miss the generous 10am curfew.

Perfect for a stag or a city break. Not opulent but very nicely finished, homely and simple. Thanks.

Sadly the wifi didn't work on iPads or iPhones from about the 4th floor up...
