“Go for Fun? Go for KEX!!!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Hi folks,

wanna sleep in a warm, cosy hostel that brings you back to the roots of travelling? Go for kex!!!
Best interior decoration Ive seen so far( seen a lot: appx 100 hostels)!!
Best kitchen as well! Great chef with heaps of fun at work.
Where do I start? I felt home by the time I arrive there, the big lobby with heaps of sittung opportunities gives ya a slush feeling of settled home back to the 40ts or so. But with a quick broadband internet connetion whereever you go! I loved the mix of modern and old fashioned room set up.

Everything is clean. I havend experienced any trouble! In case I needed some help there were always plenty of young mates around me, even in the nighttime I got hooked up with information from the lovely hostel workers! All the best to you mates!!

Ive been working in a hostel myself in cologne, no chance to compare. The Kex is GREAT!!

what else to say?
I got everthing I needed! and now the BONUS:

Free Jazz concerts in the Lobby, I've enjoyed it heaps mates!

Best food Ever from the chef!!! Prices are too fair I have to say! couldnt get any better in a hostel.
Perfect restaurant, with an atmosphere of a hostel.

Fresh beer from lovely bar mates! (all well quick! Thanks for slaking my thirst so quickly!!

go for it !! You'll looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove it!!!

I was arriving late from London and needed a place to stay overnight. KEX was a great find and the staff was very helpful and friendly even though I arrived after 1 a.m. The hostel has so much charm and such unique character, I regret that it was such a short stay. Close to the water, with breathtaking views of the mountains, it was perfect for a morning stroll. It's not directly in hub of activity, which is nice, but still extremely accessible. You can get pretty much anywhere within a five-minute walk. This hostel also hosts mini-concerts so it would be cool to time them with your stay. Cons: I thought the breakfast (extra) could have offered a bit more variety for its price. Tip: KEX charges extra for a duvet cover and towel, but I had brought a flat sheet so I used that as a cover as well as a small towel. They do provide pillows, so no charge for that. If you don't mind sharing bathrooms, and love meeting new people and appreciate interior design, take a look at KEX.

By far, one of the best Hostel's (maybe even hotels...) I have ever stayed in! Love the retro feel of the place- the bar and reception area is crazy and our room was great. We had a double room, and used the shared bathrooms- which were always clean and never had to queue for!
Staff were helpful- esp when we needed to print something we'd forgotten to print at home, and knowledgeable. The food in the bar was fantastic too!
Seriously, I can't say enough good things about Kex. I will recommend it to anyone I know visiting Reykjavik!

Room Tip: We had a double room on the second floor- no noise from the bar.

This hostel is amazing, it looks like an eastern bloc prison from the outside, but once you get in its really quirky and cool. The Kex crowd are very trendy, but everyone is very friendly. I stayed with six friends; we rented two four bed dorms. The bunk beds were very comfortable and linen was fresh and clean. The shower facilities were good (if you’re very comfortable with yourself you can use the communal shower) The toilets were always clean apart from once. The breakfast in the morning was plentiful and tasty. The hostel is set in a down town Reykjavik and is in easy reach to all the bars and restaurants. I would recommend Kex to everyone, this was my first time in a hostel, and feel spoilt.

If there was a premium type of hostel this would be it. It's in Iceland, in the city, by the coast, by the main street, near a local hot pool, set in a beautifully renovated biscuit factory, and it's the trendiest place to stay and hang out in the whole of Rekjavik. So unique is its design, its really doesn't leave much to the imagination, cause it's all laid out in front of you. The mattresses are the best I've slept on when I've been away and the food is cooked fresh by incredibly talented chefs. Overall...I don't think I could big it up anymore. You should find out for yourself. It won't disappoint. And massive respect to the hostel designers to make the most of recycling old materials, you've turned what may once have been junk into the finest art.

Room Tip: Make sure you try the food, and enjoy the local events that are held there.

The hostel is very hip, clean and big and the staff are very helpful! Our room was quiete large (dorm for 4 persons). The food in the hostel is excellent and there are some local beers on the draft. Every tuesday there is also live jazz music which makes the place even for tourists an interesting place

This place is one of the most unique hostels I've ever stayed in and was a cosy place to return to after cold days exploring Reykjavik. I stayed in a 16-bed dorm which was spacious, tidy and comfortable. I had a big snuggly duvet and fluffy towel which were much appreciated (though you had to pay extra for these). The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a bit expensive for what it was and I would recommend using the excellent kitchen facilities on each floor instead, unless you're particularly lazy. Great location by the centre of town and virtually on the waterfront. All-in-all a great hostel experience.
