Description: Cafe Loki offer Icelandic meat soup, Icelandic sample plates, homemade bread and cakes. Icelandic traditional homemade dishes are our specialty. You can taste fermented shark and dried fish but Icelandic meat soup and our Icelandic plates are most popular among the Rye Ice cream and Skyr cake. Beautiful view over Reykjavik, Hallgrimskirkja church and to mountain Blafjoll. Icelandic food.

Heavenly! The rye bread ice cream is like tasting ambrosia. It comes topped with the most luscious whipped cream and rhubarb sauce. Do not miss this! It was so good we went back for seconds.

Also must get the traditional Icelandic meat soup which is lamb with potatoes, carrots, parsnips and cabbage in a light broth. Some of the best soup I have ever had it definitely warms you up after a cold day touring Reykjavik.

Nice efficient service. Definitely go for the ice cream. You won't be disappointed.

Arrived at 20:25 on a Tuesday. Was told "the kitchen closes in 5 minutes". We were given the chocie of ordering in 5 minutes or leaving...we left. In my experience, unless a restaurant is actually closing they usually seat you. No idea about anything else here.

We sat near the window on the ground floor and service was friendly and polite. I had the Icelandic Platter number 2 with smoked lamb on flatbread, mashed fish on rye bread, smoked trout on rye bread, wind-dried fish with butter and four cubes of fermented shark - contrary to how a lot of people found it, I thought it was actually rather tasty, tangy on the tongue. I wasn't keen on the dried fish, the taste was fine but it was hard to eat so I left some. However the rest was absolutely scrumptious and all washed down with an excellent Freyja beer! Afterwards we had the rye bread ice cream which I can honestly say is one of the best ice creams I have ever had. Would definitely return and try a different Icelandic platter.

Very much enjoyed dinner here, as it serves traditional Icelandic food at reasonable prices (for Reykjavik). Most would think the menu is more of a lunch place, but with Reykjavik prices this place can be a relatively inexpensive choice for dinner and they do serve beer. The view of the church from the second floor is very nice, especially in warm colors as the sun gets lower in the sky. Many items come as open finger sandwiches on extraordinarily delicious brown rye bread. The bread is as great as all the reviews say. We very much enjoyed the lamb, the smoked fish, the pate, the fish salad and the potato salad. My son had lamb soup / stew, which was hearty and also comes with bread. We also tried the tasting plate of Icelandic specialties which includes salt cod and fermented shark. As most guides say, the shark is an acquired taste (reminded me of the antispetic rinse they put on snorkle masks, which the guides tell you to rinse that off before putting in your mouth). But at least you can say you tried it and only paid a moderate price for the experience. The desserts were great. Especially the rye bread ice cream which lived up to its billing from other reviews. Hard to find reasonably priced traditional Icelandic food. So if you aren't looking to go to Bonus and shop for yourself and eat in your hotel room, this is an excellent choice for local flavor at reasonable prices (for Reykjavik).

Don't miss the homemade rye bread at this cafe across from the cathedral. Interesting fish dishes, including the herring.
