Description: Baejarins beztu pylsur (English: The best hot dog in town) often shortened to simply "Baejarins beztu", is a popular hot dog stand in central Reykjavik, Iceland. In August 2006, the British newspaper The Guardian selected Baejarins beztu as the best hot dog stand in Europe. The majority of Icelanders have eaten at Baejarins beztu. It's downtown near the harbor and has been open since 1937. Foreign visitors are often brought to the stand to introduce them to the hot dogs there, which are often called "the Icelandic national food." Among famous people who have eaten at Baejarins beztu are Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, and James Hetfield, vocalist of the popular heavy metal band Metallica. A hot dog condiments include ketchup, sweet mustard, fried onion, raw onion and remoladi, a mayonnaise-based sauce with sweet relish. Hot dogs are often ordered with "the works," i.E., All condiments, or in Icelandic "eina med ollu".

It's a hot dog. The quality of which you get at a minor league baseball game. Not terrible, just nothing special. The popularity is baffling but that's the Icelandic obsession with hot dogs.

If you're looking for something simple, tasty and cheap in Reykjavik, this is it! Friendly fast service; get your hot dog with The Works, a weird combo that hits the spot. Yummy!

Here is where the common Icelander used to come and grab a pulsa on they're short lunchbrake. Apparently they don't anymore. The story goes that the "Towns best pulsa" has shifted from quick clean service to long slow lines of tourists that have no idea what they have gotten themselves into. Up at the disk there are thousands of questions to the expedient on how to eat the pulsa and what actually goes on it. Understandably. What if you don't like raw onion? If you get tired of waiting in line while people ask questions and have to have a selfie I tell you that you can get this thing much faster at any sjoppa and every N1 in Iceland, questions included and a selfie.

Amazing! Went after a cold day down on the harbour and bought one then went straight back for another. Had a subsequent 5 others in my two weeks there! I honestly couldn't get enough. Something about those toppings. And you can pay on a credit card! Think it worked out at something like £2. Bargain!

These hotdogs were delicious.... The loaded dog comes with fried onions, raw onions, ketchup, sweet mustard (pylsusinnep) and a special mayo (remoulade). These were so good, we went back for a second!!
