Description: Baejarins beztu pylsur (English: The best hot dog in town) often shortened to simply "Baejarins beztu", is a popular hot dog stand in central Reykjavik, Iceland. In August 2006, the British newspaper The Guardian selected Baejarins beztu as the best hot dog stand in Europe. The majority of Icelanders have eaten at Baejarins beztu. It's downtown near the harbor and has been open since 1937. Foreign visitors are often brought to the stand to introduce them to the hot dogs there, which are often called "the Icelandic national food." Among famous people who have eaten at Baejarins beztu are Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, and James Hetfield, vocalist of the popular heavy metal band Metallica. A hot dog condiments include ketchup, sweet mustard, fried onion, raw onion and remoladi, a mayonnaise-based sauce with sweet relish. Hot dogs are often ordered with "the works," i.E., All condiments, or in Icelandic "eina med ollu".

I was told that I had to try it with everything. The sweet mustard substance overpowered the onions and the hot dog.

Once is enough.

“Got Munchies? Grab a Pylsur!”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

We heard about this place on the plane so we sought it out and was pleased. Not the kind of dog you get in the States, but you can't beat the price and it is a good snack anytime in the day. The night was drizzly so there wasn't a line. Oh yeah, bottled water is rare since the tap water is so good.

“fast food and the cheapest meal you will eat in iceland”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

Grabbed the Clinton dog while my friend had the everything dog. It was tasty hot dog but the mustard didn't look like mustard to me, i ate it so it doesn't matter. Took a little bit to find the stand and luckily only 2 customers ahead of me...after I sat down, the line got longer and longer...

“You haven't experienced Reykjavik until you go to BBP!”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

I had read about this place and decided I must ensure I try it out on my third visit to Reykjavik. It's pretty easy to find - close to the harbour, behind the Grayline Iceland Excursions office and next to a taxi business.

The choice of food is simple, hot dog with everything, which consists of dried and fresh onions, ketchup and hotdog sauce. As I don't like onions I opted for a hot dog with just ketchup and my partner had one with fresh onions and ketchup. Service by the lady in the kiosk was friendly and efficient. The hot dog is by far the best I have ever tasted, and the ketchup was very different to your typical red sauce - fabulous. And all for just £2. Soft drinks are also available and there is a picnic table if you want to sit down, but I imagine this gets taken very quickly in warmer weather.

BPP does appear to be a bit of an institution in Reykjavik and is a 'must do' , with even Bill Clinton being a past customer.

“A legend worth stopping by at”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

The hot dogs are tasty and not really something super special, the location is nice and people watching is nice here too. The stand was across the street from our hotel (the 1919) and we watched the crowd there as we came and went. Eventually we got a hot dog and it was indeed tasty, I recommend stopping by here, it is quick too.
