Description: Baejarins beztu pylsur (English: The best hot dog in town) often shortened to simply "Baejarins beztu", is a popular hot dog stand in central Reykjavik, Iceland. In August 2006, the British newspaper The Guardian selected Baejarins beztu as the best hot dog stand in Europe. The majority of Icelanders have eaten at Baejarins beztu. It's downtown near the harbor and has been open since 1937. Foreign visitors are often brought to the stand to introduce them to the hot dogs there, which are often called "the Icelandic national food." Among famous people who have eaten at Baejarins beztu are Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, and James Hetfield, vocalist of the popular heavy metal band Metallica. A hot dog condiments include ketchup, sweet mustard, fried onion, raw onion and remoladi, a mayonnaise-based sauce with sweet relish. Hot dogs are often ordered with "the works," i.E., All condiments, or in Icelandic "eina med ollu".

I went here during my first time in Reykjavik and returned twice during this trip. It's your average hot dog stand and your not so average hot dog. They're made partially with lamb which gives it a very unique flavour. Instead of American traditional ketchup and mustard, it's a sweet mustard, ketchup, a remoulade sauce and crispy fried onions which come together as a beautiful melange of savoury-sweet crunch.

People said you have to try this place and they were right. It’s a small building, nothing fancy and no indoor seating. There are a few picnic tables outside. We visited Iceland in the winter and there was always a line which moves pretty well. Prices were reasonable and the hot dogs and ingredients are very good. Definitely something you should try.

Since everybody was raving about this place we had to go and try it. The hot dogs are OK. They are certainly not Wow. They are good for a quick snack when you don’t want to stop in one of the pricy restaurants in Reykjavik.

This place is located off the main street in Reykjavik centre but find it and you will not be disappointed...that is if you like hot dogs. Not the average hot dog for sure. Usually a long queue and time of any day. That must tell you something. Just an average hot dog stand in the street, no fancy surroundings, doesn't look like much but the hot dogs.....oh man.

I was not overwhelmed by this hotdog. It was ok, in terms of being something to eat for a snack mid-afternoon but I wouldn't write home about it. I personally think a Costco hotdog in Canada tastes better.
