Description: Baejarins beztu pylsur (English: The best hot dog in town) often shortened to simply "Baejarins beztu", is a popular hot dog stand in central Reykjavik, Iceland. In August 2006, the British newspaper The Guardian selected Baejarins beztu as the best hot dog stand in Europe. The majority of Icelanders have eaten at Baejarins beztu. It's downtown near the harbor and has been open since 1937. Foreign visitors are often brought to the stand to introduce them to the hot dogs there, which are often called "the Icelandic national food." Among famous people who have eaten at Baejarins beztu are Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, and James Hetfield, vocalist of the popular heavy metal band Metallica. A hot dog condiments include ketchup, sweet mustard, fried onion, raw onion and remoladi, a mayonnaise-based sauce with sweet relish. Hot dogs are often ordered with "the works," i.E., All condiments, or in Icelandic "eina med ollu".

So the rumors are true these could be the best hot dogs in the world.

Having spent two days in Reykjavik, we finally decided to try the dogs after a wander around the local flea market on a Sunday morning.

Simple and perfectly cooked hot dog with your choice of onions (fresh and fried), ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise, to have your 'dog with everything is the way the locals have it.

360 kr each they are an absolute treat to your taste buds.....get yourself here and try one for yourself!

We had spent all week in Reykjavik wondering what was causing all the fuss and the long queue, so on our last evening we decided to investigate...... We lined up with young and old, locals and tourists alike and ordered one of the hot dogs each. They were so good we queued up for another each!! A great end to the holiday and a 'must do' when in Reykjavik and a cheap meal option in relation to the notorious high prices to eat out in Reykjavik. We discovered later on our return flight home that it was rated as the No. 1 place to eat in Reykjavik :-)

But very good and interesting nonetheless. Their followers insist these are the best hot dogs in world. They certainly are up there. They have a decent bun and they line it with French fried onions. The frank itself is a combo of beef, pork and lamb, not your usual stuff. They top it off with a sweet brown mustard. Think there might be some mayo in there too. Hard to remember because I was crouched down behind a garbage can trying to save myself from the killer Icelandic wind. Here, for sure, they have Chicago beat.
The guy in the stand yelled down to me with some pride, "This is where Bill Clinton had his first heart attack!"
"Maybe so," I shouted back, "but it wasn't the dog that got him. It was the cold and wind!"

We had a little trouble finding the location but we eventually got there. We got our hotdogs with everything on them, which includes crunchy onions, raw onions, and two sauces. They were delicious! Definitely recommend.
