This was my first Glacier Hike & it did not disappoint. Our guidelines was knowledgeable, patient & fun! Although the weather was gray & rainy we still experienced the rugged nature & beauty of the blue ice wonder.

Book it today! I can’t wait to go back.

Hello Beth, thank you for the review.
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the glacier walk with us.
The glacier can be truly beautiful in the rain as the blue ice is more prominent and the low clouds make it even more mystical.
We hope we have the chance to meet you again on your next adventure in Iceland.

Best regards,
Íris

Four of us in our group took the two hour basic glacier walk. You are provided with crampons and an ice ax, and are taught how to use them. You than take a van ride to the start of the trail, and walk a short way to the glacier, where the tour starts. Our guide took the group of about 15 over the glacier, stopping along the way to give us interesting information about this glacier, as well as glaciers in general. Be sure to dress warmly, and bring gloves! We found this informative and enjoyable.

This was a fantastic experience. Our guide Michal could not have been better — from the beginning he was friendly, knowledgeable, and ensured that we had a quality experience. Our trip began as we hiked across the glacier, all the while Michal providing the history of this place (including the less-than-exciting news of just how quickly this glacier is vanishing). As we proceeded up, Michal taught us how to use our equipment and keep ourselves safe, ensuring ever member of our small group was comfortable regardless of experience (some of us had climbed mountains before, while others were entirely new to climbing. None of us had done any rope climbing on glaciers!).

At the top, Michal showed us to one of the most beautiful sights the glacier had to offer: a large crevice carved out by water flows that had created an ice cave. We were able to rappel down to view the cave, and then climb back up with picks in hand.

Afterward, we hiked slowly back, with more history and gorgeous views of this amazing glacier.

This is a must-see experience for any trip to Iceland. Forget the tour bus — go climbing while you still can!

Our group of six hiked the Svinafellsjokull Glacier with Ingi as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and showed us the glacier in a way we never would have seen it on our own or by air. It was very apparent that he loves his work and the beautiful outdoors of Iceland. Be prepared to spend about four hours hiking on the glacier. It can be physically demanding at times but never did we feel unsafe. Ingi was terrific! I highly recommend this tour.

We did the 4-hour hike of the Svínafellsjökull glacier, and it was easily my favorite part of our 5-day stay in Iceland (which is saying at lot, as all of Iceland is incredible!). Our guide was Michal and he was super knowledgeable about Iceland and the glacier and very patient as we had a group of all ages and fitness levels. You can tell these guys really enjoy their job, and it really adds to the experience! One note - be sure your are dressed appropriately (waterproof head to toe) or rent the gear from them, as light rain is very common. Also, if you're going in the summer, don't "over-layer". I had a long-sleeve dri-fit base layer, a light fleece pull-over, and my waterproof jacket on. It was perfect - any more than that and I would have been uncomfortable warm.

Bottom line - Do it! You won't regret it.

Thank you for your review!
Michal is truly a great guide that loves his job and we'll make sure that he gets your message as he'll appreciate it.
We are happy that you enjoyed the tour with him and thank you for this great tip regarding dress code.
It can be hard to dress for the weather in Iceland as it is constantly changing, so dressing in layers and having a back pack for extra layers can be the perfect solution. It is an honor to hear that this was a highlight for you and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

Best regards,
Íris
