Owner description: Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. The company was established in 1994 by four young outdoor enthusiasts with a passion for nature, travel and environmental advocacy. These pioneers aimed to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull glacier. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today, Icelandic Mountain Guides offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers and ice caves, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

If you love trekking in remote places, the Unplugged Wilderness Trek with Greenland Adventures by Icelandic Mountain Guides is definitely one you should do. It doesn't get much more remote than East Greenland, and spending 12 days in this incredible landscape where there are no trails and no other people is an awesome experience.

The trek is supported by boat (the luxury is that you only have to carry a day pack), and, despite the remoteness, the logistics organisation from Icelandic Mountain Guides was impeccable. The hostel in Kulusuk is wonderful, the camping equipment provided was first class, and there was no shortage of food throughout the 12 days (you definitely won't go hungry!)

Our guide, Maxime Poncet, was beyond brilliant, with a wonderful ability to get everyone talking, loads of interesting stories, and never-ending patience and good cheer. We had a lot of fun together as a group and I really didn't want it to end!

Testament to the quality experiences that Icelandic Mountain Guides provides, I will be returning to East Greenland in 2018 to trek their "Inuit Trail", and at least 3 of my trekking companions on Unplugged Wilderness had trekked with Icelandic Mountain Guides before as well. Fantastic Company! Can't wait to return!

This 2 day small group tour left from Reykjavik and took us all the way around the southern tip of Iceland and included two glacier treks, one with an ice cave. Our guide Margrit was terrific. We were dealing with about 4 hours of daylight and an incoming storm but she was able to work out the timing to give us a beautiful hike on the glacier and showed us some really cool black beaches. During the storm we were snug at the incredible Fosshotel or on the road back. Since the storm was confined to the southeast we hiked the second glacier on the way back. The whole operation was totally professional and yet completely laid back. I only wish we had had more daylight because it appeared the Fosshotel has great views. Oh, bring a swimsuit for the sauna.

We had a wonderful 2 night/3 day trip round Southern Iceland. Our guide, Pascale, was a lot of fun while being sensibly safety conscious, and really good at giving us a sense of what it was like to be Icelandic. I particularly enjoyed her night troll stories. She coped well with weather challenges which stopped us getting to out intended first night’s accommodation and meant we couldn’t do the glacier walk- she worked really hard to take us to alternate stops so that we still had a memorable trip with lots to see and do. Iceland is a stunningly beautiful place and I’m sure I’ll be back- I wouldn’t hesitate to use this company again when I do return.

Thank you for this review, and your great comments about Pascale.

We are very proud of our guides, especially their commitment to safety and security. It sounds like Pascale pulled out all the stops, despite the weather challenges.

We would love to see you again for another adventure, so please keep in touch.
