Owner description: Icelandic Mountain Guides is Iceland's premier adventure tour operator. For 20 years we have been in continuous operation of offering adventures in the wilderness of Iceland and Greenland. The company was established in 1994 by four young outdoor enthusiasts with a passion for nature, travel and environmental advocacy. These pioneers aimed to introduce the wonders of Icelandic nature to travelers from all over the world. We started by offering Glacier Walks in Skaftafell and later on Solheimajokull. Hiking, backpacking and other adventures and expeditions in Iceland and Greenland soon followed. Today, Icelandic Mountain Guides is a company that offers adventure tours ranging from short day tours to longer multi-day expeditions in the great outdoors in both summer and winter. So whether it is the exploration of the icescapes of glaciers, crossing of impressive highlands, trekking in the extraordinary rhyolite massifs or hiking in fascinating valleys, our aim is to Make Every Moment an Experience.

My friends and I were incredibly lucky to have had Viðar Helgason as our tour guide with Mountain Guides in Iceland. He cared about sharing the rich history and culture of Iceland with us, so we all gained a better understanding of the geography, land, and people. Vidar was also incredibly personal and clearly is someone who enjoys meeting new people. Even when the weather didn't cooperate, Vidar was very comfortable modifying the itinerary based on our interests. Each day was an adventure, but with plenty of rest and good food. We all felt strongly after the trip that we want to return to Iceland and have him as our guide again, as our trip was really spectacular due to having him as our personal tour guide. I also want to thank Dagny who was the most prompt and professional person with whom we corresponded while trying to find a tour company and itinerary.

We took these 2 tours in September and we really had a good time. Scenary simply beautiful and the day just flew away. The guides, Stephan and Jòn were great, very punctual on picking us up at the hotel and well prepared.

We had a great day and night exploring the south coast of Iceland. Stefan was a wonderful guide and we loved being able to hike the glacier, admire the waterfall Skogarfoss up close and explore the Skogar museum. A yummy meat soup (lamb) with homemade bread at Anna's House and great coffee topped off the day before we headed off to look for the Northern Lights. And...success! Being able to photograph the Northern Lights and Skogarfoss (complete with a rainbow) were highlights of our trip to Iceland.

Our trip to Iceland was off to a blustery start (a hurricane had just passed through), but it all turned around when my friend & I spent the day on the Lava Cave & Hot Springs tour with Orn from Icelandic Mountain Guides Day Tours. We were lucky to have a small group (just three of us, plus Orn) and the weather was unbelievable. The Lava Cave was a fun way to start the day, and hiking to the Hot River was beautiful. Even got to meet a few sheep as we wove our way through the valley.

You can bring a lunch, but the tour stops at a great little cafe (Litla Kaffistofan) between the cave & the hot springs. I got a bowl of their homemade lamb stew, and they had other light options too - and bathrooms. This stop is a great time to throw your bathing suit on under your clothes too, if you don't feel like changing al fresco next to the Hot River.

Can't wait to go back and explore more someday.

A great day out all round. A very informative bus guide who told us all about the area on the way to the glacier. The fantastic experience on the ice when we were shown exactly how to walk safely on our crampons and led to various interesting features on the ice. All helped by a beautifully sunny day. 2 waterfalls on the way back too.
