We rented bikes at the Old Harbour and biked our way to the Geothermal Beach ready to relax there for the day. Upon arrival we could see that it was extremely crowded and there were tons of kids ( I love kids, but was looking to chill). The hot tub was completely full of adults, we couldn't have fit if we wanted to. Then we found out there were no lockers, only baskets which were left open to whoever. You could have them hold your valuables in security, but there was a charge. Once we went into the changing room we made up our minds. It was hot and crowded with very little privacy. The whole feel of the place was just not appealing, so we left and biked our way to a nearby cafe with outdoor seating which was wonderful...then biked on over to Perlan. Maybe on a less crowded day the appeal would have been greater, I don't know. I think this is a great choice if you have kids, they all seemed to be having a blast! But if you're looking for a quiet beach day....skip it!

We wanted to try the soaking in hot water thing but avoiding the commercialised Blue Lagoon. This beach is easily reachable from the middle of Reykjavik -- we took the bus out (fixed fare with transfers if you need them) and walked back into the center of town afterwards.

There's a beach at the end of the hot water outfall of some city heating construction -- so the water is warm, but try to go when the tide is high and going out, rather than low and coming in. There's also two hot tubs to sit in, a full changing room, a snack bar, and a lot of childrens' toys and climbers. The lifesaving staff went and collected some eels, starfish and crabs from the rocks and showed them around to the children when we were there.

A good place to experience a little of Icelandic life that's a bit off the beaten tourist path.

We really enjoyed this public hot tub area. Changing areas, hot showers, snack bar and everything was available and free of charge (except the snack bar items of course). Its a great place to chill out for a few hours. The long pool was quite warm, the hot pot near the beach was luke warm and the water by the beach area was cool but not as cold as the ocean. The locals went swimming in the ocean with neoprene gloves and booties before relaxing in the hot pots. We really enjoyed it!

The hot pool is lovely if it is not crowded. There is also a steam room. There was some sort of locals event when we attended where they all went swimming in the sea!

The Moroccan sand looks a little out of place but it's a fun place to visit. The hot tub was very crowded and we did not get in. We walked down to the beach and the water was warmer than the open ocean but not warm enough to entice us to get in. It was a chilly day and we had our coats on but the Icelanders may as well have been on a beach in southern California. The beach is right next to the airport so you'll get the occasional plane taking off or landing.
