Went to this restaurant on our second last night in Reykjavik and squeezed it in just before going on a Northern Lights tour. Really glad we chose it, it was amazing. All the food was exceptional and the waiters would offer a fully detailed description of everything just after they served us.

I have the Fiji soup starter and it is possibly the best thing i've ever tasted. Simply awesome. Followed by the Iceland main which was a mixed plate of freshly caught fish. Another fantastic dish. There were four of us dining and nobody had a single complaint. The only down point was that we had to leave to go on the lights tour which ended with a sore backside from the minibus and a Northern Lights no show. Would much rather have stayed and enjoyed some wine and a desert. Highly recommended.

It was a casual winter Tuesday. When we walked into the restaurant, the atmosphere seemed rather casual as well, the bar area was empty and Sweet Home Alabama was playing over the speakers... It was not what I was expecting from 'the best restaurant in Reykjavik. A sharp and strict host instructed us to hang our coats and took us into the main dining area. The dimly-lit room with about 12 tables of varying sizes was three quarters full.

But atmosphere aside, we came for the food, modern Icelandic cuisine specifically. We ordered the Sleigh Ride around Iceland, a prix-fix tasting menu of 8 courses. At 8900ISK it was equivalent to ordering a starter, main and dessert (at 16500ISK, it came with a flight of wine). A significant price, but no more than any restaurant of class in a capital city.

The courses came within reasonable intervals. Each was named/themed after a region in Iceland. The waiters took the care to identify everything on the plate. Each dish consisted of a number of ingredients some of which may have gone unnoticed without the explanation.

It was an imaginative meal albeit a little exhausting. I was quite full by round 4, salted cod with sweet potato, then came another main lamb and more lamb... I had to let my husband take the helm as a wanted to leave room for dessert...all four of them. Yes there were four desserts: a passion pudding brulee, vanilla sorbet with strawberry and marshmallow, toblerone ice cream, and a pudding with chestnut creme (?)... So word of caution, if you want to enjoy the whole sleigh ride, stay away from the wonderful home made bread which comes with 3 delightful spreads: cinnamon butter, apple sauce and skyr (Icelandic fresh cheese), or come very hungry.

Fantastic food. Cooked perfectly with innovatively combined, top quality ingedients. We had the Around Iceland menu (with wine) which rather than being loaded with gimmicky nibbles of whale and puffin featured scallops and smoked cod, salmon, that delcious melt in the mouth Icelandic lamb and a trio of deserts including hazlenut brownie, strawberry sorbet and a vanilla marshmallow creme. Fikfelagid has a cosy intimate atmosphere - we were completely unaware of other dinners - and the service was excellent too. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. Equals any of the top end London resturants I've eaten at.

This place is simply excellent. We had the taster menu with the accompanied wine selected for each course and was not disappointed.

The staff were attentive and knowledgable. They explained the food perfectly.

The 6 courses were all immaculate. Combinations of flavours that were exciting yet accessible - a real taste sensation that we will never forget.

You simply have to go. Life is too short not too.
