“My absolute Favourite Hostel yet!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2011

I actually wrote a blog post about this amazing hostel, which you can read in full here: http://seattlestravels.com/hi-hostel-reykjavik-downtown/

The Hostel not only provides some serious comfort and accommodations, but they can even set you up on an awesome tour of the extreme Icelandic countryside. With numerous dorms to choose from, private bathrooms, a guest kitchen, common room and tasty breaskfast bar… what’s not to love about HI Hostel Reykjavík Downtown?

Our beloved 10 Bed Road Princess Dorm at the HI Hostel Reykjavík Downtown was perfect, and looked like it came straight out of an IKEA catalogue (a good thing, in my opinion). We arrived late at night, and took the two empty beds closest to the windows. Exhausted from traveling, we immediately crashed into our comfortable beds for a great night’s sleep.

The dorm had it’s own private bathroom which was located at the back end of the room, away from the windows. Just like the rest of the hostel, the lights were automated and environmentally friendly. I love a hostel that conserves electricity!

I’ve made use of a large number of hostel kitchens in my days of traveling, and I’ve never been so impressed as I was at the kitchen of HI Hostel Reykjavík Downtown. Cleanliness is usually one of my biggest concerns, but this kitchen was always spotless.

The Common Area was probably my favourite thing about the entire hostel. I always love a good common area, and this one looked almost like a fancy restaurant and a cozy café mixed into one. The huge front window was lined with four-seater tables, with a great view of the street.

We spent seven nights at the HI Hostel Reykjavík Downtown, and I really enjoyed it. I hope to head back to Reykjavík in the next couple of years (if not sooner!), and I will definitely be going back to the HI Hostel.

It has the perfect location, a friendly atmosphere, and comfortable accommodations. It can easily be compared to a top hotel, I can honestly say that it is one of the best hostels that I have ever visited!

Room Tip: I got a good look at the private room, they were hotel-worthy. However, the dorm rooms are just as g...

I stayed there for over a week in September/October 2010. Having booked a co-ed 10 bed dormitory several months ahead of time, which had been overbooked, I was upgraded to a quadruple occupancy room without surcharge.

The hostel was very clean, the staff was very pleasant, kind and ressourceful. The kitchen was always clean.

Very recommendable establishment! Especially fancied the heated floors...hurray for green energy!

Very very clean and spacious. I stayed in a ten-bed dorm room and the bathroom was immaculate, everyone had their own shelf in teh bathroom to store toiletries, the shower was large and very clean and the room itself was spacious with lots of individual storage. Also, you can't beat the location, just minutes to everything downtown Reykjavik has to offer! Loved it and will definitely stay there again.

I spent a weekend at the hostel and I have no complaints whatsoever. The staff was very friendly and the place felt nice, young and clean. We got a room for 2 with our own bathroom and the standard was high. The furniture was new and the style of the room felt like somthing one could get at a hotel.

The staff helped us to find a nice little guided tour around the Golden Circle - they made sure we wouldn't need to go with the big and busy tour buses. In other words - the place is a great way to enjoy both comfy beds and the rest of Iceland.

Room Tip: Twin bedroom, ground level

I stayed here for a week as part of a conference and had a bunk in a mixed 9-bed dorm. The location was brilliant - perfect for the seafront and town centre but not noisy at all. Even though people were coming in to the room at different times, everyone was very curteous. Breakfast was lovely - orange juice, coffee, muesli, bagels, toast, cheese, meat, jam etc. and served from 7am-10am. Staff were always happy to help and there was a shed at the back to keep my bike in. The kitchen was clean and well stocked. I'd recomend trying the Icelandic fish and chips on the corner down the road, and the little 'Lobster Soup' restaurant just 1 minute away is brilliant! Really appreciated the free wifi and that I could drink my own beers in the cafe/lobby. Can't praise this place enough!

I really enjoyed my stay! The rooms were spacious, clean (I was in a 4 person mixed dorm) and had an ensuite. The whole hostel seems to have been renovated recently and is brand new condition. Good free WiFi signal even in rooms. Hostel in good location 1 street back from waterfront, just a short walk from main downtown street. Close to a really nice organic fish n chip shop and other good restaurants very close by. Breakfast (not included, around 1000 krona each per day) was pretty good euopean style and includes bagels, OJ, coffee, meat, cheese, tomato, cereal and yoghurt. At first I thought it was on the expensive side until I saw the other prices of food in Iceland and its pretty actually reasonable.

Stayed for 2 nights in a comfy double room on the top floor.
I had a double room with shared bathroom, but that didnt bother me. What I could see, they actually have more rooms with private bathroom then without! So more like a nice no thrills budget hotel downtown then a hostel ! :-)

The location is grand, just seconds from the centre, so you are just in de middle where all the fun starts! Did some tours, but the weather wasnt that good, but ywahhh, Im in Iceland! Staff was nice and helpfull. Got a very good deal for a rental car.

Will stay here again, with another visit.
