We went with Volcano tours purely because of their leaflet in the hotel, we liked the sound of a smaller tour than a large bus.
We were glad we chose them and in fact did another two trips the same week. We were picked up at the hotel on time and greeted by a friendly driver by the name of Alky. He was very friendly without being overly so and very informative. The land rover was clean and comfortable and I'm glad to say warm. We were able to go off road and closer to the sights than a coach would and we were able to stop where and when we wanted for photos etc. nothing was to much trouble. We were really spoilt the first time as wewere the only people on the trip so we had the experience all to ourselves. But even on the other trips (maximum of five allowed in the vehicle) it was still intimate and fun. We got so close to the sights and were able to stop on the roadside for great photos, we couldn't imagine that being allowed in a large coach. We chose another two trips ( three overall) because even though it was dearer than the larger coach tours the value was so much more. Another plus over the larger tours was we were able to stay as long as we wanted at sights we liked and move on when we chose. We would choose this company again when we go next time and would recommend them to anyone else going. Like I said even though they are slightly dearer than a larger coach tour you get so much more from it for your money (besides what's the point of worrying about money on holiday?) better closer experiences, fun chats brilliant photos and no hurrying or being herded like sheep.

I had booked a jeep tour through volcanotours.is and double-confirmed an 8am pickup. At 848pm the evening before they sent me an email saying they were canceling my tour. Just like that, no explanation, no apologies, no suggestions of alternatives. Bear in mind by this time most other tour operators are closed. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Do a volcano trip. See Hekla, Eyjafjalljokull etc. There are tremors every day but you cant feel most of them. This is a must.

Quite fun and enlightening. Clint (He didn't even try to tell us his real name- we'd never pronounce it). He picked us up at the hotel, comfortable Land Cruiser, took us places we'd never go in the rental car. We saw lava fields, geothermic areas, sheep, Icelandic horses, lakes, waterfalls, Where the continental plates of Europe and America collide, the Blue Lagoon, and even went caving in a lava tube. He had the overalls, hardhats, lights and gloves for everyone. It was a small group, so if we didn't want to cave, ok. I started down, after about 5 minutes, decided I'd had enough. That was OK too. My 84 year old mother loved it and made it the whole way. Clint was a font of information. His ancestors were some of the first settlers. Tea at the little historical house was also really fun. Since it was a tiny group, we stayed at each place as long or short as we wanted. Wonderful, highly recommended.

We were picked up by Erling from Volcanotours in his jeep at our hotel for a sightseeing trip around Reykjanes. We stopped at a number of interesting places and learned a lot about Iceland's fascinating geology. Some highlights were a geothermal power station, the hot springs at Krysuvik/Seltun, caving in a lava tube and tea with home-baked cakes at the old flaghouse at Grindavik. We were dropped off at the Blue Lagoon for a swim as long as we liked and then driven back to Reykjavik. Much nicer, more flexible and a lot more personal than a bus trip - great value for the money.
