Owner description: This unique part of the highlands is one of Iceland’s most awe-inspiring places. Among its main characteristics are the colourful rhyolite mountains with their varying textures, shapes and sizes, and the wonderful natural hot springs, perfect for soaking in after a day of hiking.

We visited Landmannalauger in a Super Jeep tour. This was the highlight for me during our weeklong stay in Iceland. The scenary is unbelievable rugged and beautiful. The mountains change colour and you feel like you are the only one in the world. I have never seen anything like it. Seeing it with a guided superjeep tour was the way to go. Skip the whale watching or Blue Lagoon and do this instead!

This is a long journey, but if you like the natural environment, then this is the place for you. Nearby rhyolite hills overlook this thermal spring. Get close and it is very hot.the surface streams cool the water down. If you are a trekker, then do the trail - one of the best.

If you go to Iceland. And if you like rough. You have to go to Landmannalaugar. And you have to stay there for at least 2 days. The walking trails around Landmannalaugar are fantastic.
The surroundings are astounding. There's a different scenery around every corner.
I went to Landmannalaugar by bus. You really need a 4x4 to get there or take a bus. It was a rough and long ride. When you get there you can pitch your tent anywhere in the valley. There are showers and places where you can sit on a bench and prepare your dinner. You have to take your own burner with you though. (Or you can rent a chalet there. But book in advance.)
It was rather crowded so there was not much free benchspace to sit out of the wind.
I walked 2 trails. Both very rewarding: Brennisteinsalda (meaning "sulphur wave") and Ljóttipollur (meaning "ugly mudhole"). But there are other beautiful hikingtrails. You can get a map at the store or follow the signs (coloured wooden poles).
At the campsite there is a natural hot spring. Which smells a bit like sulphur. But is a nice relieve after a day of hiking in the cold and rain.
The weather isn't that nice most of the time. But i had a bit of luck. It was cold, but the sun was shining the first day. It rained the second day all thoughout the day.
Anyway, this is a must see/do!!

Landmannalaugar is absolutely stunning. The scenery is so different from anything else in the world. You must take the journey if you're in Iceland..

We went on a daytrip with Reykjavik Excursions with a small group of 9 people. My expectations were high, and they were really truly fulfilled with this trip. The guide knew everything about Island and answered all questions. He even made the effort to try and speak to my 9 year old son who only speaks swedish, I can tell you he had lots of questions! The nature was fantastic! Deserts of lava in different colours and shapes. The mountains in all fantastic colours. You just have to go there to understand!
When we arrived to Landmannalaugar, the guide took us for a walk that lasted 1,5 h over a lavafield and along a small river, past a sulfursmoking mountain. I just loved it, and so did my family. After the walk we took a bath in the warm clean creek. It was just the best! I could have stayed a little bit longer in the warm water though! I highly recommend this trip to everyone who loves nature!
