“Friendly, efficient and enjoyable.”
Reviewed January 4, 2011

Reykjavik excursions is a large tour company that offers a wide array of tours to choose from. We used the very efficient and inexpensive flybys to get from the airport to reykjavik with transfer to our hotel. Blue lagoon express is also a great way to travel to the lagoon due to the companies large schedule. Also did a south shore tour with that was very enjoyable, especially a stop at a little folk museum in I believe skogar. All and all a good company to travel with for this particular tour and transit.

“Its cheap for a reason”
Reviewed January 3, 2011

We booked on a Northern lights tour with this company, and it really seemed like the just drive around Reykjavik picking up as many tourists as possible to fit into there 5 HUGE coaches, They are cheap for a reason and most of your time is spent driving around and not seeing much.
There where over 300 people on 2 different tours we booked with them.
The company itself are very well organised and on time, tour guides are good.
The only downside is its impossible to enjoy yourself with such a massive group of people, all trying to view the Northern Lights at one time at the side of a road in the mountaines.
The only good thing about this company is they offer a perfect pickup service (FlyBus) to and from the airports.

“Some hits some misses”
Reviewed December 6, 2010

We have just returned from a weekend in Iceland where we made use of Reykjavik Excursions. The Golden Circle tour was fantastic and the leader kept the group moving along nicely so that we could see everything in the day light. I could have done without her singing folk songs as we drove alone but each to his own!

The northern lights tour I felt was a bit misleading. The material shows lots of professional pictures taken with long exposures on fast films and you do expect something quite fantastic. As it was we saw some lights but nothing spectacular. The company can't be faulted for that but they can be faulted for saying we would be back at 1130 when it was actually 130, leaving us exhausted for the next days tour. They sent 4 massive coaches to the same viewing spots so there were dozens of people milling about detracting from the ambiance of the experience. The most negative thing about it was the guide telling us repeatedly how we had definently seen lights, when at that stage we actually hadn't and how we wouldn't be able to come back the next night and try again without paying. To be fair they had taken quite a lot of money off us and to spend so much of the tour telling us about how we wouldn't get a second attempt was rather galling. I would recommend travelling with a smaller company or hiring a car and doing it yourself.

Lastly the blue lagoon and onwards to the airport was good, though the bus left later than advertised and took longer than 20 minutes to get us to the airport, so I would allow yourself plenty of extra time to get there.

“Reliable and helpful”
Reviewed November 30, 2010

Was in Reykjavik last week and did the Flybus, Golden Circle, South Shore and Northern Lights with this company. Flybus great, travelling on my own so a cost effective option and everyone was really helpful. Love the fact that for the excursions they pick up and drop off at your hotel. All the escursions were really good but I liked the South Shore the best. Although large buses there was plenty of time for stops to take pics etc and the Golden Circle guide entertained us with lovely folk songs between the sights - beautiful voice - sorry I can't remember her name.
Went on the Northern Lights but sadly didn't see anything (knew it was unlikely as it was a full moon!) but the guide Ragna ? was really informative and we drove up to Pingvellir to see if we could get a view and that was magical, I'd been there in the morning on the Golden Circle tour and seen the sun rise so to go back and see it bathed in moonlight wth the frost twinkling like diamonds was something special. Our guide seemed genuinely upset that the lights didn't come out to play : ). Was offered a free trip the next night as we hadn't seen anything but sadly was clouded out - just gives me another reason to go back and I will definitely book with RE again.

“Reykjavik Excursions must make a FORTUNE.”
Reviewed October 28, 2010

Large coach busses, several at a time flooded with tourists paying $50-80 dollars (US) a head for simple airport-hotel drop off or northern lights viewing (driving around, stopping and getting out, rinse & repeat).

However, they ARE consistent with other companies on the island offering similar products. They are prompt and highly organized.

Thank you for your review but I have to differ with some parts of it. Our Airport transfer costs from $15-$20 and not $50-$80. We allso offer a great variety of tours all around the west and south of Iceland and we try to offer personal service to all customers. The big buses are of course necessary to handle a big load of passengers but it should however not affect the tours we offer. Our northern lights tour is probably the cheapest one in Iceland and costs just over $40 it offers you a 3-4 hour guided evening tour. Hopefully this explains a little bit about what Reykjavik Excursions are doing and I hope you had a good time on your tours with us. Best Regards, The Reykjavik Excursions staff.
