The holiday we booked was called the Northern Lights holiday, with the Northern Lights tour expected to be the highlight. As it turned out, the Golden Circle Tour with Reykjavik Excursions turned out to be the highlight of the trip.
It had been snowing the day before, so when we were driving out to see the attractions, the snowscape was magnificent with the fresh fallen snow, and a bright blue sky. We were surprised that the bus was able to drive in the conditions, but the driver didn't bat an eyelid and was obviously used to driving on snow. We soon found out why there are yellow posts on each side of the road - it was the only way you could tell where the road was.
We stopped at a viewing area at just the right time and were lucky to see a beautiful sunrise (at about 10.00am). Got some good photos.
We visited Gullfoss waterfall which was quite spectacular, and then carried on to see the Geysir which spouts every 7 minutes or so. The hot springs on the same site enable you to bathe in the very warm outside pools.
Inevitably on these trips, there were always the shops that were situated at each stop, but that did not detract from the enjoyment of the trip.
It is a full day trip, being picked up at circa 9.00am and returning about 6.00pm. There are stops for lunch and refreshments.
Really enjoyed the day out and would recommend it as a 'must do'
