“Tours for the masses”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Decent prices to get out and see some of Iceland, but too many people on each bus and too many stops where the bus unloads and goes in to buy food, drink, souvenirs, etc.

They offer "pick up at your hotel" which means 30 minutes prior to tour departure they send out mini-vans to various hotels and then shuttle you back to the main terminal where you climb aboard a full-size bus for your tour.

At the end of the day, they drop you back off - but not at your hotel. They make a variety of stops and any hotel in the general area is announced and as you get off the bus, they point you in the right direction to walk back to your hotel. Because the bus is very large, and it is dropping people off all over the city, it takes quite a while for those who are staying in the downtown Reykjavik hotels to finally get let off.

If money is tight, this tour company is ok. If you've got some extra travel dollars, pick something smaller and more to your schedule and interests.

“mixed feelings”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

We got the Flybus from the airport which was very efficient, we got dropped at our hotel. We then booked a trip to the Blue Lagoon. after waiting for 25 minunutes i asked reception to call them and check they were still coming. They said they were running a bit late but were. I have the feeling they had forgotten about us. They sent someone quite quickly (the benefit of being a big company) but the small but has a big crack in the window and the seat belts didn't work. we pulled up in the bus terminal carpark just as the blue lagoon bus was leaving. they held it for us but we didn't have the tickets etc so had to get them from the driver. It felt like we very nearly missed the bus. Blue lagoon itself was brilliant as was the trip home. The airport pick up on the way home we booked for 12pm but weren't told the bus would come between 12 and half past. It was a good job we'd gone for the earlier bus. The small bus picked us up at about 25 past, the driver wasn't hugely helpful he let us put our own bags in the bus, then dropped us at the bus station and i had to ask him 2 or 3 times where we had to go to get the bigger bus. the bigger bus drivers seemed fine but the smaller bus drivers seemed a bit ropey. Having said all that they are a big company and if you miss one you can jump on another,

“Airport and Blue Lagoon Run”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Before we left for Iceland I just checked the priceof taxis, thought £90.00 was ok. When we arrived at Keflavic airport every body seemed to head for the Flybus. When getting nearer to the kiosk, noticed it was about £20.00 and it dropped us off at our Hotel, we thought why not? The Staff were very helpfull, the journey took 40 mins, after the others left the bus we were taken to our Hotel, all in all from boarding the bus to getting off 65mins. Excellent service. We booked the Blue Laggon trip a couple of days later. They picked us up, transfered to another coach at the bus station, no problems, just had to wait for a couple buying their tickets. Journey to and from the Blue Lagoon was punctual, and when we got back to the bus terminal, we stayed on the coach and was dropped off at our hotel. I couldn't find a fault with the service, the Drivers were very helpful, and the ground crew were very profesional, would recomend this service, but dont forget to book return journey to the airport with Hotel

“Excellent alternative to a car.”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

We used this company for three things: Flybus, the Golden Circle tour, and South Shore Adventure.

There isn't much choice at Keflavik airport, it's either this or an even more expensive taxi. That being said, the buses are regular, they will drop off and pick up from your hotel and there's free WiFi. Given the choice, I'd take the bus any time.

The woman at the bus terminal when we were making our bookings was friendly, honest and knew her stuff.

The Golden Circle tour was lovely but that was more due to the sights themselves. The first stop was half an hour at a tomato greenhouse, which they don't advertise, and is probably down to a backhander from the greenhouse owner. That time ate into how long we could spend at the three stops. I felt we got plenty of time at Gullfoss and Geysir, but only forty minutes at Þingvellir. Really, you could spend an entire day there. If they dropped the first stop and extended the tour to give you a couple of hours at Þingvellir this tour would have been near perfect.

The South Shore Adventure goes down to Vik, the southernmost town in Iceland, and back, by way of a glacier, some beaches and two waterfalls. There was also a random stop at a petrol station, I suspect because of a legal requirement for the driver to have a rest. This trip felt like a long morning of driving with all the good stuff crammed into the afternoon. It'd work better if they stopped at one of the waterfalls on the way out, letting the driver rest while everyone else gets to sight-see. The guide on this tour (Kristion?) was much more talkative than the one for the Golden Circle, but then it was a smaller group. He was genuinely interesting and knowledgeable. Unfortunately we only got 40 minutes at Skogar folk museum, which had been the reason we'd wanted to book this trip in the first place. That was down to people being late at a few stopping points, but even then I don't think enough time is given to a genuinely interesting museum.

Overall, the benefits of the company outweigh the niggles. The hotel pick-up and drop-offs save you having to get down to the bus terminal, and they'll even drop you off downtown on the way back if you prefer. The WiFi is brilliant in a landscape otherwise devoid of phone signal. You're set free from driving (and the expense of) and allowed to ogle that landscape instead, with someone to give you some local knowledge at the same time. If you're travelling alone it also gives you some company.

All they need to do to make things spot on is fine-tune some of the timings at the stops.

“Golden Circle Tour - Amazing!”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

We did several tours with Reykjavik Excursions and each was very well organised - pick ups were to schedule and each was value for money. Specifically, the Golden Circle Tour was brilliant - the sights were amazing and the tour guide made the trip extra special with his interesting facts about Iceland. Overall, absolutely brilliant!
