This tour was fantastic. Throughout the entire day the tour guide went above and beyond making the tour, interesting, informative and interactive. The tour guide Thorstienn is very knowledgeable indeed and spent a lot of time answering questions and sharing his knowledge and making us laugh. He is a genuine person and takes pride and pleasure in showing his guests a region of Iceland that he has intimate knowledge of. The region itself is full of many things, that you would never find if you hired a rental car and hoped to find things yourself.

It was also great to end the day at the Blue Lagoon too, plenty of time to spend there and get back into Reykjavik for a late dinner.

We did other tours whilst in Iceland and they were good - but this was by far the best.
If you are looking for a great tour whilst in Iceland then I recommend this to you without hesitation. I hope you had as much fun as we did.

Salty tours was an extremely varied look at this part of Iceland, with an extremely friendly and well versed tour guide. The tour gave us a great look at various landscapes, and experiences such as Shark tasting, bird watching, and the SaltFish museum, ending up at the Blue Lagoon. We highly recommend this tour.

We recently travelled to England on Iceland Air. We opted to stay one day in Iceland before proceeding onto England. We are so glad we did. My daughter found a wonderful tour company www.saltytours.is our tour guide Thorsteinn was wonderful. He was so passionate about his country and so knowledgeable. We were picked up at 7:30 am at the Keflavik airport and spent the day touring around until 4 pm when we were dropped off at Blue Lagoon. Blue Lagoon was amazing, so relaxing. We could stay as long as we liked and then we were picked up again and brought to our wonderful Hotel Keflaviik. Everyone was so friendly. Viking beer is great. Definitely consider this stop on your way to England.

We arrived in Keflavik on a Friday early AM and contacted Thor at Salty Tour to pick us up at our Keflavik Hotel the following morning. He agreed to meet us at 8 AM and was punctual with a clean, modern Mercedes Benz tour bus. We drove to a hotel in Reykjavik where another couple from Germany joined our tour. Thor speaks English well and is a former fishermen turned tour guide and operator. He described the history of the country as we toured Reykjavik. I asked him to stop at the Peace House where the US and Soviet leaders met in the 1980's. He also showed us the fisherman's wharf area of the city before we began a journey to the rural and geothermally rich areas on the Reykjanes Peninsula. We stopped at several hot springs with beautiful rock and fauna back drops. Then onto some clear lakes among the lava strewn landscape. We saw how the sheep herders lived for centuries and visited the tiny church they worshipped in for over a hundred years. Then onto the coastal town of Grindavik, which is the hometown of Thor and Salty Tours. A visit to the Salted Fish Museum was included and the modern museum with interactive exhibits was educational and fun. We were given time for lunch in Grindavik, and had "Cocao Soup" aka "Hot Chocolate Soup" at a new "New York" deli near the docks. Open faced sandwiches with fish and vegetables were also delicious. Then we headed for an area where newly caught cod are hung to dry in fields of wooden racks. The sea gulls and other native birds were of course enjoying the fish before we arrived to firghten them away. Then for a special treat, we entered a shack that has been used to dry shark. Thor offered us some dried shark along with a bit of Icelandic alcohol. Although I passed on the alcohol, the shark was an adventure I'm glad I tried. We crossed more geothermal and geologically rich areas on our way to the finishing touch of our tour, the Blue Lagoon. Please check the website for the Blue Lagoon if you haven't heard enough about it already. Wonderful! Oh, I forgot to mention that we also went to the Viking museum outside Keflavik which is home to the replica of the Viking ships that visited North America prior to Columbus. The descendants of Erik the Red and other Vikings put on a demnostartion of blacksmith techniques and other Viking arts and games. After the Blue Lagoon, Thor delivered us back to our hotel in Keflavik, in time for dinner and a fun night in the festive city. This door to door servcie, not only for us but for the other couple who headed back to Reykavik while we were in the Blue Lagoon, made this a relaxing and adventurous way to meet Icelanders and learn about their country.
