Owner description: The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis. The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependant on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included.

Despite not seeing what we went for we loved our short break in Reykjavik. We flew out on WOW airlines which proved to be a most enjoyable experience the sense of humour and efficiency of the crew puts the bigger airlines to shame. We stayed at the Reykjavik Lights Hotel which at first we thought was a bit too far out of town but it wasn't. This appeared to be a new hotel very modern and comfortable we were lucky to have a room looking out over the bay which was stunning. Breakfast was good the staff friendly and helpful.
The pre-arranged trips to see the Northern Lights and Whale watching were all very efficient, I felt sorry for the staff having to try to make it more exciting than it was especially for the Lights as they knew before we set out that it was highly unlikely that we would see any but they did their best to keep us interested and tried different sites.

We loved Iceland and would like to return perhaps in the summer. Eating out was not cheap but no more expensive than most European Capital Cities if you are a drinker you won't be able to afford to get drunk! You don't need to change money to local currency as they take credit card everywhere even for small purchases.

Our trip was arranged by Fleetway Travel who provided a good service at a reasonable price.

Highly recommend it.

Wonderful experience of the Northern Lights on this Jeep Safari. We were taken out by the most helpful and informative guide "ZARA". Zara was funny, enthusiastic, and so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Due to her persistence we had a fantastic show of the Northern Lights, along with just one other couple this was an intimate and inspiring trip. Thank you Reykjavik Excursions and especially Zara.

NEVER SAW THE LIGHTS AFTER STANDING IN THE COLD FOR 3 hours, all we saw was a cloud, they said this was good, we did see a short glimpe of them on our retun to Reykjavik, one tip is do not bother trying to take a picture if you are lucky enough to see them with a phone or digital camera as they will not be able to get any, you need a S L R camera this is according to the guide

We just got back from Iceland and the highlight of our 3 night stay was the Northern Lights Tour.

It started off low key as we were driven to a golf course near the airport where we stood in the cold for what seemed like hours. The clouds wouldn't budge and it was starting to feel like a waste of time. This feeling deepened as we all got back on the bus.

On the way back the driver took a detour onto the coast road and within minutes we could see stars as the clouds rolled back. Then our guide thought he saw something. The bus stopped and we files out onto an isolated road in the cold and dark. A smudge in the sky turned into a streaky line. Photographs were taken and the cameras showed the fickle lights had indeed appeared. As time passed the aurora grew stronger and more pronounced. But it was freezing cold so we got back on the bus.

On our way back to the city the aurora became even stronger with pronounced wavy lines crossing the sky. We thought it would even be visible from the city centre but cloud cover returned and obscured the display.

Awesome experience and the central goal of our trip accomplished. Worth staying awake until 02:30 and risking frostbite..!!
