Description: A tiny, family owned soup restaurant in the heart of Reykjavik. We are proud to be the first and the original "soup in bread" restaurant in Iceland. We've been serving soups in bread for over 20 years amd we love it. Please note: We do not take reservations, ever - but swing by and we will do our best to fit you in with smiles on our faces! :)

A fantastic little place set above the shops in the main shopping street in Reykjavik and most definitely a welcome lunch stop to warm up. The place is extremely popular and the atmosphere is bustling. The staff are welcoming and friendly and very attentive.

We had 4 meat soups served in a large crusty cob bread and 4 beers. The soup was delicious and just what was needed to warm us up.

You must visit this place during your stay, we would not hesitate to go back. The Svarta Kaffi is truly deserving of all the positive reviews. Thanks for a great lunch and your excellent hospitality.

We stopped here after visiting the large catholic church nearby. The weather was very windy so it was nice to sit at a warm table and enjoy soup in a bread bowl. I was hungry and managed to eat the whole thing. My wife only ate the soup and a bit of the bread. They only have a choice of two soups per day. We had brocoli and mexican chicken. I also had two beers "The Gull" and my wife had a tea. Came to about $50 and when I went to leave a tip they said no need. Very friendly and great service. Overall great experience.

Ever fancied a large round bread, hollowed out and filled with very tasty home made soup? Go here!
Of course they do serve other things, and it's a great little place for a drink (they do a fantastic hot chocolate, and are proud to serve Guinness!)
Worth a visit. On the main street.

This little gem was truly wonderful. We were made to feel welcome the minute we walked through the door and the bustling atmosphere was great. The main meal here is soup in a roll!!! It was delicious!! We would have gone back again if we had had more time. It was perfect!
