“Amazing soup, wonderful service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

Went around 15:00 in the afternoon last week when i was travelling there.
The reason i went in was i thought the owner's daughter was Mihela Chiappa

Anyway, their claim to be the best soup in town in undoubtful, especially on my 3 nights and i've had other types of soups in town. I had the Cream of Broccoli soup.
They said they have 24 types of soups on rotation, and will always serve a meat and a veg option daily, dependant on what ingredient is fresh in the morning, decided by their chef.

The waitress was a Romanian girl, very helpful and polite. Spoke to her a little bit, and she was really friendly and gave us some advice on where else to eat in town (since they are a cafe / bar, they don't have much else as food), which was very enjoyable places nearby.

And as of the value, it was not cheap if you compare it to UK or US, but compare it to other places in Reykjavik, you will realise they do have a rather high price level. So the value was excellent.

“For soup lovers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

Walking down Laugavegur on our first evening in Reykjavik, we stumbled upon Svarta Kaffi. Their claim to fame of the Best Soup was inviting, and indeed no disappointment here. Served in a bread bowl, like they do at Panera's in the States. The chef makes different soups every day. The place is very cozy. Upstairs, looking out over the street. Friendly service.

“At least I liked the soup...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

Looking for something light and easy, my wife and I happened on this restaurant on a cold evening in late September after a big day of sightseeing. I ordered the soup (Mexican) in a bread bowl and she had the ham and cheese sandwich. The soup in the bread bowl was the perfect thing warm one up. The bread was fresh and delicious. The ham and cheese sandwich (with a side salad) was mediocre and the side salad got a little extra crunch from crushed Doritos. Wait...Doritos? The staff were courteous and the atmosphere was casual and cozy.

Skippable.

“Simply a wonderful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012 via mobile

Before our departure to Iceland I checked Tripadvisor to make sure not to miss the 'hotspots'. Last sunday afternoon we went inside and enjoyed the cousy atmosphere and excellent soups. They had 2 different ones. I ordered french meatsoup and my wife took the leek-potatoe soup. We both enjoyed it a lot and had our batteries refilled in a short time.. Make sure to visit this place in the middle of the mainstreet and have a seat at the window.. We'd love to come back very soon!
