Description: Tiny family owned soup restaurant in the heart of Reykjavik We are the first "soup in bread" restaurant in Iceland. We've been serving soups in bread for over 20 years and still loving it. We don't take reservations, ever - but swing by and we will do our best to fit you in with smiles on our faces! :)

Great little place if you want filling up without paying the expensive prices that the other resturants charge. It's also really quick as the soup is already hot and they just ladel it into the bread so great if you don't have much time. Might not be very authentic but the fish restaurants were way out of our price range!

“Nice little cafe”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

We had dinner here: soup in bread bowls (they have a meat and a veggie option) and chicken schnitzel (my daughter liked that one). It's cozy and the prices are good (for Reykjavik!), about $12-15/meal.

“Excellent Soup and Comfort Food”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

It was our first day in Iceland and we'd had a full day of sightseeing. We were tired and just looking for somewhere close to our hotel for a quick bite. Svarta Kaffi filled the bill on all counts. It was a drizzly, dismal day and the soups offered were the perfect pick-me-up. However, the burgers and sandwiches also helped to fill me up. Centrally located and convenient. Friendly, efficient staff and reasonable prices, by Icelandic standards.

“OK, but not recommended”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

This place has a very positive profile on Tripadvisor. Based on the reviews we went here for lunch.
At the entrance they have a sign saying: "the best soup in Reykjavik". Although the soup was not bad, this is -in our opinion- not the best soup in Reykjavik. Also, when we visited there were only other tourists in this place. We prefer to go to places where also locals eat (or at least a mix of locals and tourists). The service was fast and friendly. The soup was not expensive, but all in all, I would not recommend this place. There are much nicer places with better soups.
My suggestion: when arriving at the airport go to the Tourist Information stand in the Arrivals Hall (on you right hand when you enter the Arrivals Hall) and get your free copy of the Grapevine, Reykjavik city guide and What's On, etc. Here you find all you need about restaurants, things to do and also a lot of info about Iceland.

“Great Soup and Service”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

A quaint restaraunt in the heart of Reykjavik. Soups are served in fantastic bread bowls. Rich and hearty, just the thing to take away the northern chill after a busy day of sightseeing. Good prices, about $15 a person and more than filling even for the biggest of appetites. Sit by the window and enjoy the street life as you munch away!
