Description: Vidid and homely seafood restaurant by the old harbour in Reykjavik opposite the Maritime museum. Fresh fish is our game! Magnús Ingi Magnússon, chef and owner of Sjávarbarinn, also guides groups in a gourmet walk by the old harbour. He welcomes the group in his seafood restaurant at 10 am with traditional fermented shark and Icelandic schnaps, called Brennivín or Black Death, and more local delicacies. Participants are then led on a tour by the old harbour that ends with a visit to the Icelandic fish market nearby where they can see the fresh variety in the day‘s catch. Magnús Ingi guides the tour and gives an introduction to Icelandic fisheries and its history. Then the group returns to Sjávarbarinn for a feast, a buffet with variety of the best seafood that day. There Magnús talks about traditional and popular seafood dishes and cooking methods. The meal ends appr. at 12.30 pm. More information at our website, sjavarbarinn.is. Only 6,900 ISK per person – €55 – $66

After trekking in and about Reykjavik, and being unimpressed with the value of other downtown restaurants, an uncomplicated dinner at Sjavarbarinn was a great treat. It is, to be clear, a bit off the beaten track, unless you're planning activities in the harbor area already, but clearly the very hospitable proprietor wants to feed visitors, as he offers pickup from your hotel for dinner service if you are willing to make the trek.

The entrees are delicious, and fresh, and a generous serving, and selection of cold and hot buffet items on offer should please most palettes.

Would suggest the smoked salmon, apple salad, and whatever else might be on offer to augment your meal. It makes for a great hearty meal. Also, barring a shellfish allergy, go for the lobster soup offered to get you rolling. It is outstanding with the house-made brown bread.

Delicious food!!!! I had never been to Iceland before but this was a great place to visit to try the fish from the area. It is a good deal for the lunch buffet. My family and I all wanted to eat more but we couldn't stuff ourselves enough. We regretted stopping for food when we weren't as hungry as we could've been. Definitely check this place out. It's a little ways away from the shopping but it's only a 5 minute or less drive.

Exploring the old town of Reykjavik and chanced upon this wonderful fish restaurant down near the docks. Fresh catch of the day and an eat-as-much-as-you like buffet. Friendly owner. Definitely worth a visit.

We've had lunch at the Sjavarbarinn on our last day in Iceland and it felt like the perfect finale of our trip. We were warmly welcomed by owner/cook and former fisherman Magnus. We choose the hot & cold buffet and started with a delicious fishsoup and home-made ryebread. I just loved the posters on the walls, it fitted perfectly in the decors of this tiny restaurant. I would definitly recommend this to anyone who likes to eat fish :)

This place was recommended to me as a reasonably priced place to get fresh fish in Iceland. It does what it says on the tin. No fancy furnishings, but food very tasty and good value for money.
