We had a good time at the hotel. Rooms and breakfast were good. The owner was a kind man. He helped us telling about Iceland and the interesting places.
The hotelroom was clean. The shared bathroom/toilet was always clean. Everyday clean towels after we left.

I stayed at the Capital Inn with some friends from 19th to 25th September 2011. We were greeted by friendly staff who were knowledgable about the city and marked all the places we should see on a map. Throughout the week we found the staff helpful and were happy to book coaches and a hire car for us, each time to pick up from the hotel itself.

The room was clean, with clean towels provided every day. Breakfast was plentiful with a variety of choices.

Yes it is a 30 minute walk to the city centre but you get what you pay for and a central location comes with a price.

If I had one criticism it would be that there are only 2 bathrooms for the floor and as the toilets are located in the bathrooms there was sometimes a wait. Top tip for beating the queues is to get up earlier, and you'll have more of the day to see the sights as a bonus!

Room Tip: Pay the extra to avoid the 'bargain basement'

I stayed at the Capital Inn from Sept 12 - Sept 19. The first thing I noticed was its location. This guesthouse is not situated in the most convenient location city-wise, however, with proper direction, you can walk to the heart of downtown Reykjavik in under 40 minutes. The bus stops frequently, however you do need to walk roughly 10 minutes to get to the bus stop. Frankly, I was quite content with walking as the surrounding neighbourhoods are safe (as is Reykjavik in general). The Inn is located in a quiet, affluent, suburban area. I walked around the residential area many times and there was absolute dead silence past 10 pm.

As for the Inn itself, the rooms are very spacious and clean. Originally I had booked a double room, however, once arrived we were "upgraded" to a triple room. New towels were provided each day. The shared bathrooms were cleaned frequently. Our room was facing towards the street, however, noise was not a factor. I slept quite soundly and comfortably (that is, when I wasn't out all night lol)

The guesthouse also has dormitory style sleeping accommodations downstairs with a large kitchen and eating/lounge area for its guests to cook their own food. For those who paid in advance for the continental breakfast, there is a dining room situated on the main floor. Breakfast was decent and there was a large selection of fruits, juices, tea/coffee, breads and crackers, hard boiled eggs, and various spreads. Food stores and beverages were replenished frequently.

The Owner/Manager, Mr. Arni Solonsson, is very knowledgeable and knows how to get things done. If any questions, he is the man to ask. Mr. Solonsson advised us on current weather conditions and best/quickest routes to get into the city. He was also our liaison to the tour companies operating in Reykjavik. Everything went smoothly, with the exception of the Northern Lights Tour booked with Reykjavik Excursions due to bad weather conditions that prohibited us from seeing any Northern Lights. However, I have since communicated with Reykjavik Excursions and they have offered to reimburse us for it.

All in all, the Capital Inn is a nice value guesthouse located in a quaint residential neighbourhood. The guesthouse staff were all very friendly and welcoming, and I must give a special shoutout to Agna and Sandra, who provided us with a very pleasant and comfortable stay.

For the price you pay, there are very few places that can beat it. When I come back to Reykjavik (and I will), the Capital Inn will be on my shortlist of places to stay.

Stayed there for 2 nights. The rooms were of simple standard, though clean. Service was extremely unfriendly and not very helpful. Was witness how one of the employees shouted to a guest for no obvious reason. Also breakfast was very bad, juice dispenser not working ("we will fix that" -> next day the same, when guests asked / complained they were shouted at). Wanted to dine there one evening but cook denied service, cause he had a group that was prioritized over single-guests. Bad. Bicycles and scooters for rent are in very bad condition. The guest house is quite a long distance away from the interesting part of downtown Reykjavik, not just a short walk, but really a trek. Overall: Can not recommend this place, 63 euros a night (single room, shared shower on floor) is too expensive and a rip-off, even for icelandic standards. There are plenty of better options available in Reykjavik.

Rooms, bathrooms and breakfast was good for the value, if you consider Iceland´s cost.
But some recepcionists were not so friendly, specially boy from US, he didn´t seem much interested in giving information.
Overall the reception was just ok, but far from being friendly and warmth.
