This is the place you go for what is apparently the best lobster soup in the SW of Iceland. It does not disappoint. Very tasty curry based soup (light on the curry). Inside seats approximately 12 comfortably and that is being liberal. Being from NY, I'd have to say that the bread served with it is less than average. But who cares when you are dipping into a tasty broth and digging up lobster that literally melts in your mouth?

Outdoor seating is available when the weather cooperates.

A local recommended this place to us. When my wife and I entered the restaurant (it is more a "fish shack" than a restaurant. All food is paid for at the cash counter when placing the order, and is delivered at the table by the serving staff), it was not quite clear to use what the protocol was. So we stood there for about a minute, when the "Sea Baron" (the owner, a retired fisherman named Kjartan Halldorsson) appeared, did not say a word, took us by the sleeve and led us to the cash counter which was located in a part of the shack not visible from where we were standing.

We ordered the lobster soup, scallops and salmon, and they were scrumptious. The staff were pleasant and friendly, and if you like ending your meal with a cuppa, they allow you to make your own for a princely sum of fifty Icelandic Krona !

The Sægreifinn was the first place we decided to eat in Reykjavik - we were not disappointed! We opted for the lobster soup (served with bread and butter) which can only be described as amazing, along with a salmon and shrimp kebab. They were both grilled to perfection and every single bite was savoured and enjoyed thoroughly. Washed down with complimentary water and coffee (beers and other drinks of course available) me and my partner had nothing but praises for this place next to the old harbour. Prices were very reasonable, real value for money. Definitely one to revisit!

This was an amazing soup because it tasted familiar and unique at the same time. It had hints of curry but in soup form, and the lobster was melt in your mouth tender. You also get a fresh loaf of sliced french bread to soak up the soup, fill your belly, and leave you content. We've had such great food in Iceland and this is one of the reasons why. A cozy and charming place that was perfect for a cold day!
