“Excellent Fresh Fish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

Had to do a bit of nudging to get my friend to try this one, but it was a good find. We had the lobster soup which was good, but honestly not *that* good. The halibut skewer was some of the best halibut EVER. Super simple--just grilled on a skewer, but cooked to perfection and the fish didn't need anything more than a squeeze of lemon. Simple and delicious.

As noted, the place has a unique ambience with family style seating and is far from fancy. Restaurants in Reykjavik were very pricey and this was not cheap given the relative setting, but the fish was worth the price.

“The place to try whale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

I recommend the lobster soup, which is served with bread and butter. It has almost a thai flavour to it, and is amazing. Its filling so if you order as a starter, be warned, you will be stuffed!
The rest of the food is prepared kebab skewar style, and is grilled. Tried the whale, which was cooked memium-rare, just perfect!
Tip is to get there early for dinner as we got the last of the whale and the scallops were gone when we arrived at approx 8pm ish. Also be prepared to wait, we were waiting over 40mins for our food without any warning about how long our meals would take.

“Lovely food and atmosphere”

Fab quality and reasonable priced. Walked in there by mistake and glad we did. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. The lobster soup is gorgeous.

“Amazing fish and a quirky atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

This is a small little place that sells whatever is caught. This is all displayed in the fridge. We went the first night at 8pm and the whale had sold out so would recommend an early dinner. We returned the following day and ordered whale and salmon. Unfortunately we were not told it did not come with anything as the side dishes were not out. We did order potatoes after the food arrived. The whale and salmon was amazing and very good value for money really big chunks. Not much atmosphere but a fab place to eat fresh fish

“Lobster soup”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

This place was recommended to us by a member of our tour group, and we weren't disappointed. Located in the old harbor of Reykjavik, what the Sea Baron lacks in space, it makes up for in charm and excellent food. My wife and I both had the lobster soup, and it was excellent. It is served with bread and some delicious Icelandic butter. Overall, it was a great way to warm up and refuel before heading back out to see the rest of Reykjavik. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area.
