The room was lovely and comfortable. The share bathroom was spacious and well maintained. The kitchen facilities were very good, it is very possible to cook in and same some money. The location to the city center is great, we were able to walk almost everywhere we wanted to go.

Room Tip: En suite is available but not necessary, shared bathroom is great

My wife and I stayed at the Butterfly Guesthouse at the beginning and ending of our trip to Iceland. It is a charming place located perfectly for seeing the city. We could walk up the street and be in the central square but were not so close as to be bothered by late nigh noise. Shuttles for the Blue Lagoon, the airport and the car rental company all stopped either at the guesthouse or within a 30 meters.

The house is charming and Jon and Thuridur were wonderful hosts. They are not ones to sit on their laurels but are continuously finding ways to improve the surroundings for the guests to enhance the experience of staying their. The new dining area was just added this spring to give guests a nicer place to have breakfast. Guests also have kitchen privileges and can save on the high cost of food in Reykjavik by preparing some meals at the hotel. There is even room to store food in a cabinet and in the fridge.

My wife and I have discussed stopping in Iceland on future trips to Europe and would definitely stay at the Butterfly Guesthouse again.

Room Tip: The apartments on the third floor are great, with a small private kitchen.

It was a really great time on Iceland and to start up our trip in the Butterfly Guesthouse was the best decision we could have. Lovely people, nice rooms and showers and a really cute shared kitchen. A piece of home at the end of the world. Jon and Thuridur, thank you very much. We´ll come back soon. Thomas and Julia

We had a great stay in Butterfly Guesthouse after we had had an accident in the Icelandic hills. The room was nice, with a bathroom down the corridor. There was a good ktchen, which was great because we could not venture out too much. But the best part of the guesthouse was the presence of Jon and his family during day who helped us out so much. If you are not interested in staying in a standard hotel but are looking for a more Icelandic experience, try the butterfly!

We stayed in one of the guesthouse's self-catering apartments. While a little on the 'cosy' side, it was far more comfortable than any hotel room and meant we could really relax during our stay in Reykjavik.

Excellent location - quiet residential street, but just minutes from all the action in town.

Kitchen was well equipped, and the flat had a TV and DVD player, as well as a great balcony. Would have liked a better shower, but that's a very minor point.

We stayed at the Butterfly for 2 nights at the beginning and end of our honeymoon trip around Iceland. We could not have been happier with our choice. Jon was wonderfully helpful and nice while arranging our visit via email. When we arrived, his son gave us a warm welcome, showed us around, and answered all of our questions. We had room #4 the first night. It was a great room, and though we were expecting a shared bathroom, it looks like they built a tiny, but functional shower and toilet into the actual bedroom. That was a very nice surprise! The Butterfly location could not be more perfect. We were able to walk to everything, and there are a huge number of restaurant/bar options within an easy walking distance. We enjoyed the free & easy parking also. The second night (at the end of our trip), Jon was very sweet and gave us the top floor apartment (#8) as a honeymoon bonus. We really appreciated the gesture, and loved the extra space. You could tell that Jon & his family have put a lot of effort, elbow grease, and thought into making the Butterfly comfortable for their guests. There were nice touches everywhere. Thank you Jon, for our 2 lovely stays, and we will definitely visit again the next time we venture to Iceland!
