“Clean, convenient and priced right!”
Reviewed August 19, 2010

We stayed at the Embassy Luxury Apartments in July, 2010. It was very convenient to the all the restaurants, museums, shopping in Reykjavik. The apartment was very clean, up to date and had all the kitchen utensils we would ever need. We enjoyed grocery shopping and cooking while we were there. We stayed in the studio size apartment which was perfect for my husband and I as we were out most of the day touring the city and countryside. They also had wi-fi which was convenient.
Embassy Apartments is on a quiet street with the Russian Embassy (thus Embassy Apartments!) just down the street and other embassies around the corner. It was very easy to walk to the pool and down to the harbor as well. Although technically the apartment wasn't available until the afternoon, we arrived on a very early morning flight from the states and the apartment was ready at 8 am. Lucky us! The staff at Embassy had a map and some tourist materials available in the apartment lobby and in our room. The television was nice to have as well so we could enjoy the World Cup!
It was well stocked and if we ran out of something, there was a cupboard on the landing with paper products.
Booking the Embassy Apartments was very easy and their website is very good as well.
Can't wait to return to Reykjavik...!

we had booked 3 apts in Jan 2010 (for which they charged our credit card) for our family trip in August. In July, they told us that one of the apts was no longer available and so they would split up the group and move one of us to a lcoation 15 mins away! When i complained i was told that in the original agreement they reserve right to move apts- however i never expected ti to be 15 mins away.
Furthermore, since they charged my credit card for the full amount at time of booking, when i decided to cancel (so our family could stay together), i was stuck with the foreign exchange risk (since they had billed me in GBP) even though they reimbursed me the ISK amount

One of the apartments became unavailable. This very seldom happens but in this case was unavoidable. We had no choice except to offer alternate accommodation. The guests were offered our apologies and assistance to find other apartments for the rest of the group. Our
assistance was turned down.
These guests therefore did not stay with us in any of the three apartments they had booked.

Be aware of the larcenous cancellation policy of this hotel. Two weeks notice or no refund of any payment. I canceled a week in advance and was charged over $700 for both nights of my reservation. Admittedly, I was a fool for paying in advance, and in failing to take careful note of their terms, but have you ever heard of such a thing? The most restrictive policies usually require 48 hours notice, and even then, only charge for one night's stay. Management was unsympathetic when I canceled due to family illness. My travel insurance may provide some recompense, but pay attention if you are considering this hotel: I was charged for two expense nights and received nothing in return.

We have a cancellation policy for a reason. Usually our apartments are rented long in advance and a last minute cancellation often means that they then stand empty. It is not possible to make a reservation with us without first agreeing with the cancellation policy, which is also spelled out in the confirmation emails. We always recommend that guests take out travel insurance for unexpected circumstance preventing them from travelling as planned.

This gentleman found that he could not travel at the last minute and did have a travel insurance that he says will cover his losses.

The apartment was not rented to others and stood empty.

He did not stay with us and this review is not a review of our apartments.

I do not understand why he wrote this "review" or why he would accuse us of stealing
from him (larceny). Different culture, I guess.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Apt 90 for a week.
Our stay in Reykjavik was excellent, our choice of place to stay was really good. We choose this place as it was excellently located and cheaper than the hotels at the time of booking.
We didn't confirm our booking with the company and we turned up at Castle Apts (which was on our booking) only to be told after ringing reception that we were actually staying in the Embassy, that was annoying but they arranged a taxi to come get us.
I avoided reading too about the accommodation beforehand but useful things I would have liked to know:
- It is not really a luxury apartment. It is quite standard really.
- The brochure said there was washing facilities - we didn't use these (didn't know how), but I was expecting to have a washing machine (We went horse riding and you kinda need to wash your clothes after that)
- For real luxury I would have liked a bath.
- The shower room / toilet was meh. We unclogged the shower before using it and the door leaked.
- Cleaning is not everyday - and we had to select the service per days, but I didn't understand the difference between full service and towel change. (I mixed it up and saw no difference).
- If you contact them in advance they supply some groceries (e.g. milk, bread...)
- It is excellently located; a short walk into town yet a very quiet neighbourhood.
- We didn't connect to wifi, but it was there and the cable TV included many British channels.
- Parking is limited to apt #70.
- The bedroom and sitting room were really big. There was plenty of storage and was thoughtfully furnished - coat stand, mirrors, bed side lockers, boot rack, desk, couch, dinner table... Black out blinds (or something) would have been ace.

These apartments are a great choice for staying in the city centre of Reykjavik! They are about 300 metres from the city centre, and located in the peaceful Embassy District. A short 2 minute walk will take you to many pubs, bars and shops in the city centre. The apartment was small, but very well equipped - hairdryer, toaster, kettle, pots and pans and all the implements one would need to cook most meals. The cleaning staff are friendly and wash all of your dishes! We stayed in apartment 80, and was clean and well decorated. It had satellite tv, a small dining table with two chairs and a small double bed. The bathroom is particularly small, but you can get by easily. All in all, these apartments are a gem!

We stayed at apartment 80, at the Embassy Apartments (note the Castle Apartments are linked to the Embassy Apartments but they are located elsewhere: so ensure that you read the correct reviews.)

Apartment 80 is not a luxury apartment.

It is, in our opinion of a 3 star standard: clean, cosy and in a great location for everything.

There is no bath and the shower (with a curtain) is small.

The room is of medium size, with a TV (BBC). There is very little wardrobe space and the bed is smaller than those described as ‘Queen size’ in the USA. The kitchen has everything that you could need.

Whilst not luxury, it is a nice apartment and the location is hard to beat.

The staff (we never saw them but they are contacted easily) are very helpful.

If you want a nice room with the advantage of a kitchen then go for these apartments: maybe try for a room with a better bathroom.

The location is great for restaurants and bars but a few minutes away from the Friday / Saturday noise.

Having said that, at this time of year (Feb) there was no noise at night! The center was very quiet: the restaurants and bars were empty and the center is very small. The ‘downtown’ area is very close to the apartment: it then stretches away along one main road: all very walkable.

Reykjavik can be ‘done’ in a day.
Most visitors seem to use it as a base for touring.
We used Go Iceland for our tours: they were very efficient and helpful. They pick you up at your apartment.
Tours: Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle, South Coast Drive and the Northern lights were all great.
Note that the museum was closed on a Monday.
Restaurants: everyone we tried was good: the food was good / excellent, wine expensive (£5 a glass for house, from £24 a bottle), beer OK (about £4 a pint): service always of a good standard.

Flybus: pre booked on Internet: booth just near arrivals: coach took 50 minutes: then onto a minibus for quick transfer to Hotel Reykjavik Centrum (just 4 min walk around corner). East transfer to and from hotel.

Weather was very cold (it's the wind!): there was no snow: we were informed that Iceland has only had 2.5 inches of snow this winter, lowest ever recorded. Also informed that Snow Mobiling took place on rubber mats!

We appreciate all the reviews we receive. Partly because we like to read good things about ourselves but also because we often get important information on how to improve. In this case I just want to say that apt. 80 is the only studio apt. at the Embassy, the other apartments are one or two bedroom apartments, have much better bathrooms and bigger beds.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Embassy Luxury Apartments. You may not call it luxury if you prefer staying in hotels but it fitted our requirements perfectly. Getting the key on a arrival was no problem, you just buzzed reception from the door and they let you in and keys were waiting inside. We'd asked for some food shopping and we had the basics for breakfast, bread, butter, orange juice and milk and tea and coffee was complimentary. The apartment was spacious and warm with lashings of very hot water and very conveniently a short walk from the centre. Travelling with a teenager it's sometimes difficult to find suitable places to eat and as it's quite expensive to eat out we were pleased to be able to shop at the local supermarket just round the corner and prepare some of our own food which not only saved money but meant my son had what he wanted to eat. Clean towels and cleaning most days, including washing up! Wifi worked perfectly, again is good for teenagers who like to keep in touch with their friends when away. All in all the perfect base for a trip to Reykjavik esp. as the tour companies pick up and drop off right outside the door.
