Too often in Iceland "locally sourced" means poorly prepared exotic produced that just is not worth the fuss. Fish Market was a welcome break from that mold. Whether local lobster, salmon or beef, all were top quality ingredients, well prepared, creatively flavored and artfully presented. We have another stopover in Reykjavik and this is the only restaurant I would visit if time limited.

We went to this restaurant for lunch since the evening was fully booked,
We from Hong Kong were looking forward to see how the sushi will taste in Iceland. Although fresh fish , the sushi rice was pretty salty. Even the miso soup was pretty salty. MAYBE ... the flavour has been adjusted to the Iceland taste buds ??? This is the opinion of the 5 of us.

On a positive note; the service was done with a smile and the lavatories seemed to be clean although dimly lit.
Three of us had the Monkfish entry and the portions were too small and the fish tasted OK but overcooked making it feel like blotting paper on the palate.
My sister had Spring rolls and said they were very good.
All in all I will not recommend eating at this place until they increase their portions and learn not to overcook the fish as it is not worth the price you have to pay.

The title says it all. The fish selection is not as broad as one might expect because all the menu ingredients come from Iceland and her waters. That being said, our meal was prepared well and delicious. The restaurant is cozy even in the bright summer light. It filled up fast after opening - a reservation would be an excellent idea. A previous reviewer strongly suggested the tasting menu. Be advised that it is restaurant policy that all guests at the table participate in the tasting meal (we sat next to a family that was adamant the adults would have the tasting menu and the children something like fish and chips - not possible the server repeated calmly.) So - just be prepared.

We enjoyed one of the best meals in memory last night at the Fish Market. Our advice, though, is to splurge for the 9-course tasting menu if you can. Although a bit pricey, it offered a variety of dishes - all of them were exceptional! We started with minke whale that was seared a served with a perfectly spiced asian dipping sauce; a salad with smoked salmon & clementine; tempura shrimp (forgot one... sorry!) - then followed by a sushi sampler (four items) - then three main dishes including a salted cod (to die for!), grille salmon, and roasted lamb. The meal was capped by a delicious desert sampler (chocolate cake and ice creams were my favorite). All this was complemented by professional and friendly service. We've got three more nights in Reykjavik... I wouldn't be surprised if we decide to return!
