The positive - this place had a truly excellent restaurant with a wide choice of dishes and very delicious food. The whole dining area is big yet cosy, with assigned tables. Breakfast was also very good with hot chocolate, peanut butter and quite a lot of fruit in addition to all the usual stuff. There is also a large TV/lounge room upstairs. Outside there is an outdoor hot pool, and an indoor one too, set in a large greenhouse.

The negative - they are building some new rooms, we stayed in one of the older rooms. Somehow it was a little basic - no coffee in the room, very thin towel, all the doors close together so some noise from other rooms, no TV. Hot water temperamental and a tiny little shower. Nothing majorly bad about it but probably the least comfortable accommodation in a 10 day trip.

I would give the room 3 stars and the main building/swimming area 5 stars, hence why this review is a bit mixed.

Strangely, no sign of the parrot or arctic fox that others have mentioned.

The room was nice, well-appointed, and clean, but nothing really out of the ordinary for Iceland. The whole experience, there, though, was extraordinary! The food was absolutely top-notch and sumptuous, with huge portions and a really neat dining room complete with an entertaining parrot. There are four different hot pools (one wild, two outdoor rock enclosed pools, and an indoor hot tub) plus a little heated swimming pool in the greenhouse. So awesome! The location is also a treat - an off-the-beaten-path valley in an already pretty remote area. We loved it all. Make your reservations well ahead.

This place has all! No need to talk about the restaurant - it's awesome, but they have 3 thermal baths. For me the best one is a natural, across the river. Another one is under the glass roof. There are cherry and strawberries around the thermal pool. I was impressed!

We received a very warm welcome, arriving at around 7 p.m. It was suggested that we choose our starters and main courses then although we were not eating until 8.30, in order that the kitchen could have pre-warning of orders. In spite of this, the service was in no way rushed when we did eat, as we had feared. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and all in the lovely surroundings of the farmhouse building.
Our room was very cosy, with a great view of the surrounding countryside. We were only there for one night, as part of a longer driving tour, but would happily have stayed in in order to take advantage of the activities available there. As it was, we took a long walk down by the river after dinner to soak up as much as we could in a short time.

We spent three nights at Heydalur in early July and couldn't have designed a better stay. The location is beautiful, the food is excellent, the staff warm and inviting, the room nice, comfortable, and clean, and the activities were a blast. We rode horses, sea kayaked at 11pm, enjoyed both hot pots, played with their dog, saw the arctic fox, and went on two excellent hikes. We spent a wonderful week in Iceland and our best memories are from Heydalur.

We stayed there for two days with our kids. The food was wonderful and the staff was extra friendly and nice.
Our kids just loved the hot pots, the pool, horses and the wild nature and they just played around the hoses all day long.

We recommend Heydalur for everyone how want to relax in a beautiful nature but still have a chance to go horseback riding, kayaking or hiking.

After driving several hours through what seemed to be lifeless country we were warmly welcomed at Heydalur. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating (we got in at about 9:30 pm and they let us eat dinner). The rooms were clean and comfortable. The pool area was an amazingly smart idea where they owners grew their own fruits and veggies. The hot pot was one of a kind. Reminded me of my days at summer camp. It was perfect and beautiful and we would stay there again in a heartbeat!!
