I only gave this hotel 3 stars(as against 2 stars) because the lady checking me in was very nice and helpful and the rooms was good. However,I had to ask for a glass, rubbish bin and extra pillow(only one given), but this was attended to promptly. The guest computer was not working. The lady was kind enough to give me a room on the second floor overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. However, there was a guy on a quadbike and cars doing donuts on the gravel outside around 9pm so the police were called to remove them(quickly I might add). There was also some noisy guests who I suppopse were intending to celebrate their overnight stay in Iceland. I did get enough rest before my flight and the breakfast was okay, but definitely would not stay in Keflavik again.

Stayed here several years ago hence rebooked on return to Iceland, stayed one night only. Hotel room was on third floor so carting luggage up three flights of stairs was a nuisance as there is no lift. Bedroom was stripped bare two single and very uncomfortable beds pushed together, single duvets very thin and worn. One knackered old feather pillow per bed, lights mostly didnt work and the en suite stank of venting sewage!!! This was the last day of our holiday, this was supposed to be special, hotel priced to match the finest hotels, this was very poor. Room although sparten was clean. Very thin walls so if you intend to get some sleep, you will be disturbed by people departing very early in the morning. Overall a rip off, would pay a fraction of this normally for this type of hotel.

We chose to stay in Hotel Keilir (named for a nearby mountain) for one night before heading back to the USA. The owner, Bryndis, was so accomodating and friendly with us. She put us up in a quiet side wing of the hotel, in a room with a view of the sea. It was sparsely decorated, but she showed me a set of black & white photos they were getting ready to hang in the rooms. The beds were warm and comfortable; we had no trouble sleeping. I've heard that Icelandic hotel rooms are generally tiny. Our room was spacious which was particularly nice because my husband and I were traveling with our 13 year old niece.
We did have a bit of excitement. My niece left her passport in the back seat of a taxi. When Brydis found out, she went into high fix-it mode, contacting all of the taxi companies for us and after an hour of anxiety we recovered the passport. She was so wonderful to do this for us.
It happened to be very cold in Keflavik the day we were there and we were unprepared. We had planned a 4 day layover in Iceland. Before heading to Italy for 2+ weeks, we had mailed our coats back home. So on our final day in Iceland we froze. We wanted to do a little shopping, so Bryndis further helped us by contacting a shop owner who picked us up at the Hotel and drove us to his shop so we would not have to walk in the windy, cold weather. How nice is that? (Good prices for Icelandic wool.) Breakfast was simple, but had just what we needed. The yoghurt was delicious.
The Thai food restaurant two doors down - excellant. We would stay again, it's only a short drive from the Keflavik airport. After 3 weeks of traveling, Hotel Keilir was a welcome rest. (Thanks again Bryndis!)

Our family of five stayed at Hotel Keilir two different nights. They provided us with five beds in one room, made accommodation for early checkin (7am), and we enjoyed the comfortable lobby with free wifi. The price was fair, and the owners quite friendly and helpful. I highly recommend!

We stayed here with our family of 4 for 3 nights and would come back again. The people running the place are very friendly and accomodating. The room was basic, ours was set up with 4 beds, dorm style so we each had our own very comfortable bed. The breakfast is basic as well but tasty and plenty of coffee. They always had a bowl of fresh whole fruit out so we could take one for a snack later in the day which was great!

The bathroom was large and clean but the down side was there were no shelves as a previous reviewer indicated and no hooks to hang towels or robes. They also didn't have a bath mat but they had no trouble giving me an extra towel to use as a bath mat. Add a couple of hooks, a shelf and a bathmat in the bathroom and my rating would go from Very Good to Excellent.

We had a room facing the main street which also faced west so we learned to keep the curtains closed during the day so that the room didn't heat up in the afternoon. The street was noisy but once we closed the balcony door, we didn't really hear the noise.

The big plus with this hotel was the friendliest of the staff, they were always willing to help us and answer questions or give us great tips on the best places to eat in town.

We would have no trouble returning to this hotel again.

Recently returned from magic Iceland having spent 4 nights at Keilir hotel. To put it here briefly I honestly would not recommend this accommodation, if someone asked my advice I would say: pay even more (while Keilir isn't the cheapest hotel in Iceland) but stay at better property.
Mixed impressions in me caused by: from one side effective & attentive service (especially by Bryndis, hotel manager) & nice location on sea shore but overall quite rundown & humble state of the building, stairs, room, etc. Room itself is very small and to desribe it as "basic" is an embellishment as this room was more than humble, you see that hotel owners keep on saving on everything (small example - not a single shell to put your toothpaste & brush on).
Breakfasts were very modest - we could eat only apples, toasts & sausage (all supplied in some quite narrow corner of the canteen with no much room)

This room worked great for our family. We had a big spacious room and bathroom. We could walk to restaurants. The room was clean and quiet. We were close to the airport for our early morning flight. Staff was friendly and had a full breakfast prepared for guests at 4:30 am for those leaving on early flights.
