“Very handy for airport”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

We stayed here because we were landing at midnight & all other accommodation was already booked up. We had booked a chalet but were told that they had overbooked and would we mind staying in a bunk room instead. As we were not hanging around the next morning (& as it was almost a third of the cost) we decided to risk it. It was basically a shed with 2 beds in it. Bathroom facilities were in the main building 100m away. It was fine for one night.

Room Tip: The little cabins (with facilities) looked fun, as did the rooms inside the main building (shared fa...

We stayed in an aborable tiny cabin with bath for two nights on our way from USA to Europe. The staff was amazingly helpful, to the point of running several hundred yards to get us & asking the bus to wait when we were about to miss our tour bus. In fact, we found EVERYONE in Iceland friendly and helpful beyond our expectations. Alex's Guesthouse was clean and comfortable. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The little cabins are the only rooms with a private bath.

Only in Iceland would you find that the accommodation closest to the airport boasts a campsite and little wooden chalets, as well as more conventional rooms. We stayed in one of the chalets prior to an early morning flight. It was compact, but had everything you'd wish for including a small kitchen and bathroom (with shower). Being on the Western tip of the island it was a great place to see the midnight sun not quite setting. Breakfast is served from 4.30 in the morning and there is a free and frequent shuttle bus to the airport, ensuring a stress-free departure. Given the expense of Rekjavik hotels it makes a lot of sense to stay here instead. The reception staff, who were on through the night, were also very nice.

This establishment was part campground, part hotel. We stayed one night as its proximity to the airport made it an easy choice, and as it turns out , a good one. We stayed in a small but comfortable cabin that had every thing you could want ( except shampoo and conditioner), such as heat, fan, dishes, etc. Also provided was a free shuttle to/ from the airport and complimentary continental breakfast.

Room Tip: We traveled with friends and they stayed in the "hotel" portion of this establishment, and...

Doesn't matter what time you arrive / depart you will have transport from / to the airport.
,we had a wooden chalet to the rear, with parking. It was warm and clean, had a lounge area, small kitchenette, double bed in a recess and shower room/wc, with an outdoor porch which was pleasant in the morning sun. Standard breakfast was in the main building.
Fits ideally with your flight

The room was clean but the bathroom shower was a bit dirty, though not filthy. It looked like they cleaned it at least once a day but when you have several rooms using a couple shared bathrooms, they're going to look a bit gross after a while. Front desk was nice enough and the coffee machine in the lobby was convenient. Breakfast was generous and had the typical type of food served for Icelandic continental breakfasts. They have shared kitchens in the Guest house that can be used if you have your own food. The motel is also right next door to a car rental. We were so tired from 12+ hours of traveling that I was grateful to stop here right off the plane and not move anymore for several hours.

We choose this place due to our very early flight and its close location to the Blue Lagoon. It was a total dissapointment and a big shock after a lovely afternoon relaxing in the magical setting of the Blue Lagoon. I'd have preferred to stay in a decent place in town and drive the extra hour in the morning so ugly it was. We had two cabins and they were basic (which I don''t mind), charmless, dirty and in bad maintenance condition. One of the radiators on ours was leaking and half the lights didn't work.
I appreciate Iceland is expensive but comparing it to other places we stayed this place was just not good value.
