This hotel is not cheap but has quality. The rooms are spacious and very confortable. We chose twin rooms and the beds were wide and very confortable too. The only negative points were: bathroom towels too small and rough; the restaurant's menu had a short variety of dishes. A big plus in favour of this hotel is its proximity to the airport (around 100 m) which enables travellers to walk there.

Let's start with the price : 235€ per night. The owners of that hotel have found the perfect business model : charge as much as they can and provide the simplest level of quality acceptable. That's how you turn an airport into a cash machine.

What you can expect for that price is just a bedriol, a rustic bathroom and one towel per person. If you are lucky you'll get soap too. I must have done something wrong in my life because I didn't get any.

The breakfast was a nightmare (see picture). Undrinkable coffee and old croissants. Iceland is certainly not renown for its food and the Aurora Star hotel contributes to making this true.
The worst part of the experience was actually the night. Walls are thin and you hear everything (espcially important when flights leave at 1, 2 and even 3 am).
As a final note, let me mention that the Aurora hotel bears its name very well. Maybe you won't experience the northern lights but you will experience the airport lights. Don't count on the thin and transparent curtains to block light. They are as thin as you can imagine and will ensure you weak up early so that you won't miss your flight.

We had a nice, large room, which was clean and comfortable. Although we were close to the airport, there was very little noise. The staff was friendly and helpful. They allowed us to switch rooms to get a bigger room with a couch to accommodate our family. Breakfast was a combined hot and cold buffet, which allowed us to fuel up before a long day of sightseeing. The hotel is about 40 minutes from Reykjavik and 20 minutes from the Blue Lagoon.

Room tip: The family room did not have the couch. The room with 2 double beds had a couch and more space for the family.

The hotel is also called Airport Hotel Aurora Star, not sure which name they are changing it to/from. The hotel room was neat and clean but very basic. Do not expect to get online here - the internet is painfully slow - almost too difficult to use. Do not expect help with booking a car (you will be told to use the internet which as mentioned will not be possible) or to walk across the street and ask at each car rental place. Not helpful. But when you come in at midnight and want to get some sleep before your trip, this is a good choice. You can walk here from the airport.

Room was smallish but adequate for one night for 2. Staff competent and pleasant. Hotel generally well-run (except, see breakfast comment, below).
Contrary to some reviewers, we found the free breakfast fairly good, better than expected. However, breakfast staff did not clear tables very well after earlier diners, so there were a lot of dirty dishes in plain sight; the hotel could and should do better on this one.
