“Tired and tiny”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2011

We only wanted somewhere close to the airport, and for that it's pretty good. Quite how it gets a 4 star rating though is beyond me.

We had a "delux" room - goodness knows what the standard one is like! The room was tiny, with the small bed squashed into the corner, leaving one of you to climb over the other to get in and out. Not surprisingly, the wallpaper was marked and damaged and needed replacing.

There was a kettle and 2 sachets of coffee, along with a couple of plastic cups to drink from - lovely.

The shower totally lacked power, so don't plan your shower in the morning!

They do get bonus marks for starting breakfast at 5 for the early starters, and also for letting me print off boarding passes to give us an extra hour in bed.

Not too bad for an overnight if you have an early flight, but wouldn't recommend otherwise.

This hotel on first impression didn't seem great, it looked very 70s/80s... however, the service was good, we got a decent night's sleep and the breakfast was REALLY good - by far the best breakfast we had! Having seen other hotels in Iceland, dated decor isn't uncommon and doesn't seem to directly link with the quality of the hotels. This place was spotless!

We had no problems with free transfers - except it is worth checking if your flight is internal or to somewhere nearby like the Faroes, where your flight is from. We got to Keflavik airport when we should have gone to Reykjavik airport! Fortunately we still made our transfer despite the hour or so taxi ride.

Hotel Keflavik is a 15 minute drive from Keflavik International Airport (KEF). There isn't very much in the town of Keflavik, but it is a good base location for exploring Reykjavik and the Reykjanes peninsula if you have a car. I would not recommend staying here if you are not planning on renting a vehicle. Check in was easy and problem-free. There was a good selection of brochures and information for tours and sightseeing for the area. Pilots from Delta airlines stay here on a regular basis and we saw them every day of the 4 days we stayed here. Continental breakfast is excellent quality, especially the huge pastry selection, and is a good representation of Icelandic breakfast cuisine. We did not try the dinner here. The rooms are clean, beds and linens VERY comfortable, and quiet. Toiletries consisted of wall-mounted liquid soap dispensers. No lotion, shampoo or conditioner was provided, so bring your own. The hotel is 4 stories high, with Icelandic art and couches scattered through the halls and staircases, which was a nice touch. We also had a great view of the sunset from one of the windows at the end of one of the halls. As far as the rooms themselves, they are not 4-star, but more typical of 2 to 3 star quality by US standards are 3 star by European standards. We expected to encounter this, as well as the toiletry issue, so those issues did not present a problem for us.

On the plus side: only a few minute's drive from the airport (we had a rental car). Located within easy walking distance of restaurants in Keflavik. Excellent breakfast buffet. Clean rooms, comfy beds.
On the minus side: room was very hot, with no apparent means of cooling it off, other than one smallish window overlooking the street. The wake-up call we ordered did not happen (fortunately, we always use a travel clock as a back-up).
On the whole, a good hotel for an overnight pre-flight stay.

On our way back to the US via Iceland and needed a nice hotel for an overnight stay as our trans-atlantic flight was the next morning.

The website showed the hotel to be upscale and picturesque. Even though we only needed a bed and a hot shower, I didn't want to stay in a rat trap. We reserved the "family room" which had 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. It was perfect for our needs.

We didn't get into Iceland until after 11pm so I called the hotel to make sure they knew we were still coming and the receptionist assured me no problem and they waiting for us to arrive. They did not have airport transportation so we took a taxi to the hotel. However, the hotel did provide free taxi service back to the airport in the morning which was appreciated.

The rooms were clean and well furnished. Bathroom was clean. The hotel was tastefully decorated and had a cash machine, gym and restaurant. There was a small computer room for internet use. They have Wifi which was free after they provided the password. The breakfast was European style and plentiful.

Conclusion: Great hotel, would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Email them and tell them your needs. They were very responsive.

I would definitely stay here again before a morning flight or after a late night arrival. The hotel really understands the concerns of travellers who are heading to or coming from the airport. Also, it is one of the best values for a hotel in Iceland. The breakfast buffet is very good. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice with a good shower and roomy sink area (If you have coped with the small sinks and showers found in most Icelandic hotels you know what I mean). The hotel really is only 5 minutes from the airport, but it doesn't feel like you are next to an airport since it is 'downtown' Keflavik. Once you have been to Iceland and stayed at various places around the country, you realize what a good hotel this is for the money. (By the way, the "fl" sound is pronounced like "b" so the name sounds sort of like "Keblavik").

Chose this hotel as it is near the airport and we had an early flight. It was fine enough, but says it is a 4 star hotel, which I’m not sure about. The bathroom was lovely, but the room itself was quite small and no better than any of the other places we stayed. The bed was comfy though.

I asked for an ocean view, which I suppose you did get if you looked hard enough. I’d also upgraded to a deluxe room, so would be interested to see what you get for a standard room…

The breakfast buffet had plenty of choice, and was open early for people catching flights, but we were there at 5:15am and the orange juice machine was empty – poor show, with no one about to ask to get it filled up. Several of the milk jugs were also empty.

The transfer to the airport was most useful.

Overall – fine enough, but not what I was expecting.
