Owner description: North Sailing is proud to be pioneers in whale watching in Iceland. We run and operate four traditional Icelandic oak boats, as well as three schooners, all of them environmentally friendly. Our customers can choose between our Original 3-hour- whale watching tour, which runs several times a day from April till October, or our schooner tours, which focus on whales plus puffins plus the sailing experience. Skjalfandi Bay, adjacent to our hometown Husavik, is known for its excellent whale sightings. We regularly see humpback whales and minke whales and the chances to see the white-beaked dolphin and the harbour porpoise are fairly high in the bay as well. Our success rate in the year 2013 was 99,1 %, but of course we are operating in wild nature and can only hope that the whales and dolphins continue to visit the bay. Protecting our environment and acting ecologically responsible is therefore a key element of our operations. Good to know: We provide warm overalls for all customers, free parking and wheelchair access to our boats. Our highly motivated staff is well trained and our customers' well being and safety is our highest priority when taking you out to encounter the marine wildlife first hand.

“Sea was rough but spotted the whale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

This was an awesome trip (April 2014). The trip to the bay was quite a distance and for those who might have sea sick .. is advice to have some medicine :)

This was the first excursion of the year to spot the puffins (by the puffin island). For this trip, we managed to spot a few flocks of puffins (though they are far away and not 'standing' still at the island) on the sea. We have also spotted the humpback whale!

All in all, it was a great fun! Worth it!

“ski to the sea!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2014

This trip was EPIC!!! I was aboard Schooner Hildur with 7 friends to celebrate a birthday!! The captain and crew were amazing, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. And as my buddy said...our chef was incredible for what he produced out of our small galley was first rate gourmet fair! Our guides Oli and Kristjan were fantastic and always had a contingency plan depending on the weather of the day. They were spot on when it came to safety and reading the skill levels of all of us on the trip. They created our hikes and adventures each day according to our desires and how intensely we wanted to be challenged.
Sigga from North Sail www.northsailing.is was great in organizing and putting the trip together for us. I would highly recommend this team of professionals for your next adventure to the Northern Fjords of Iceland!

“Sea to the Ski”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

My 7 friends and I had an amazing trip aboard the Schooner Hildur. The captain and crew were very friendly, accommodating and professional. Our Cook was phenomenal especially considering the galley he had to worked with.
Our skinning and skiing experience was not to be believed. The terrain was spectacular and our guides Oli and Kristjan made us feel safe and at the same time we had a blast.
The experience was one for the ages. If you enjoy the outdoors and have an adventurous nature, I strongly recommend you consider this trip. Sailing and skiing the northern part of Iceland was amazing!

“Blue Whales!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

Great trip across the bay with sightings of numerous Minke whales and two blue whales. Friendly crew too! This is one of the best places to view whales in my opinion and that's saying something for someone who grew up in the Pacific Northwest.

This was one of the best whale waching - beautiful boat (used to be a ship for whale huting). The weather was not perfect with clouds and wind - so I took anti nausea pill which is offerd by the crew. I was a bit sleepy but when we spoted the whale th fun begin. We followed it for a few minutes and enjoyed the show..
