Owner description: Eco-friendly whale watching since 1995! Pioneers in whale watching and sustainable tourism, North Sailing is a dedicated family company with a great respect for wildlife and nature. Since the beginning in Husavik, in 1995, North Sailing has been awarded both nationally and internationally for innovation, regional development and sustainability. The Husavik original whale watching tour with North Sailing has been visitors' top pick for more than 20 years, placing the small fishing town on the map as the whale watching capital of Iceland. Now the tour is available carbon-neutral, a 100% natural experience on silent, green energy, electric boats with minimum disturbance to whales and nature. Also offering puffins and northern lights tours from Husavik. With the authentic fleet, highly qualified and dedicated crew with great sailing experience and wildlife knowledge, North Sailing seeks to inspire people to reconnect with history and nature.

Iceland is prety unforgettable so it takes alot to make a particular trip stand out. We were recommended by Iceland Unlimited to go to Husavik to whale watch rather than Rekjavik as it would be less busy and there were more whales. To be honest I've been on lots of wildlife tours and not infrequently one sees one blob in the distance which a guide will assure you is a bear/tortoise/condor whatever and that is it. Well, we saw 11 humpbacks on this trip including one that came within a couple of metres of the boat. It really was a thrilling experience and genuinely unforgettable. The crew were very friendly and the provision of all-weather lined suits was very welcome indeed. It couldn't have been a better day. It was also excellent value. The trip lasted about 4 hours and cost about £110 for a family of four which I think is excellent value by anyone's standards - let alone in Iceland where things can be more than a bit pricy. We toured the whole island and I would like to highly commend Iceland Unlimited - they were a small friendly bunch with an encyclopaedic knowledge and put together a fabulous itinerary for our 12 days. I liked the way they gave us a mobile phone to make free calls in Iceland. On a couple of occasions we rang them about different excursions and they answered straightaway and sorted things out for us really efficiently. This is one place I think where it probably is cheaper and certainly much better to book accomodation and trips through a company rather than trying to do it ad hoc (as we usually do). Recommend the company and recommend Husavik and North Sailing - one of the most memorable things we have ever done. Thank you

they have nice oak boats and they will sail all over the sound looking for whales, sometimes they are too enthusiastic in trying to please and we ended up almost on the other shore!

If you find yourself in north Iceland, you should definitely check out the North Sailing whale watching tour in Husavik. Being up-close to these incredible creatures was truly amazing and the service was excellent. The whale watching was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland!

Excellent crew and ships. Cost was about $50.00 CAD for 3hrs to see several different species of whale. It was not crowded onboard but this was near the end of the season (Aug 19th) so in peak season I imagine there would be more passengers.

Whate-watching is a matter of taste; I can't say I found it very interesting myself. We saw nothing but a few backs and raised tails, which wasn't much in a 3 hour trip.
What I strongly advise is to take note of what the operators say about the weather at sea. We took our trip in August. We were warned the sea was choppy, but that was an understatement. We were also advised about seasickness and how to vomit over the rail and downwind. It was good advice. A poor girl started to look green in the first 10 minutes and soon threw up. She was followed by many others during the interminable trip far out to sea, and during the whole time the boat was pitching violently. I felt ill myself the whole way there and back. By the time we reached the sighting ground, many of the passengers around me could not summon the energy to make it to the rail to see what there was to see, which was little. We were very glad to get back, and judging from comments so were many others. An expensive and disagreeable experience.

Dear Customer,

thank you for taking time to write this review, we highly appreciate it. We are really sorry to hear about your experience out on Skjálfandi Bay. Before every tour our staff does their best to inform passengers (both when buying tickets and arriving on the boat) about the weather and sea conditions. Since this is wild nature, no two trips are the same, and therefore our information can never be 100% for the next coming trip, although with predictions, we try to be as exact as possible. We always recommend people to take notice of the weather forecast and to evaluate out of one´s ability.
Our staff does their very best on each tour to locate and observe the whales, but in the end it is always Mother Nature that has the last word.

We gladly welcome you again in Húsavík, hoping that your next whale watching experience will be more enjoyable.

Best regards,
Huld, North Sailing Team
