Food was not terrific, but it was fun trying to blend in with the scenery even though tourists outnumber Husavikers by 2:1.

since I was with a tour group the restaurant placed us in the loft. they had comfortable recliner-like chairs which were perfect for hanging out while drinking tea or coffee and talking. The meal consisted of delicious seafood.

For those who love fish, this is the place to go. Great atmosphere, nice service and a master Chef. Prices are icelandic average.

It may not sound exciting but Gamil Baukur is a reliable, dependable restaurant for lunch, dinner or just sitting and enjoying a coffee or something stronger. The location is prime and if the weather is nice, you can't beat sitting outside on the back deck: a great place to moon the sun! While in Husavik, we had several meals here and, while not exciting, the food was always well-prepared and presented. One evening I ordered the fish "stew" - which is really a fish mash - on the advice of the waiter and it was terrific.

We arrived on a Wednesday night in August at 20:00 and there was a line out the door. The server explained "the other restaurant in town is closed tonight, and we are short staffed". It appeared that the restaurant has a small capacity.

The local catch of the day was excellent and reasonably priced (a flat fish that began with "p"). The artic char was fantastic and served over a lucious bit of rice and sauce. The soup of the day really hit the spot after the wait for the table. Once we were seated, service was fast.

The historic photos on the wall next to our table were very interesting. It is incredible how much weight of fish they would pile into the old wooden boats - until very little of the ship was above water.
